Any suggestions for robot ideas this season? So far thinking about 2.75" 2 traction 6 omni 450 rpm for drivetrain. For scoring, I was considering a reverse 6-bar with a rotating claw for picking up vertical pins and cups. Although I have no idea how to pick up game elements lying on the ground and how to separate and individually flip pins and cups.
My team is going to be running six 2.75" wheels (four Omni, two traction) on 48:60 with blue motor cartridges and a 5.5W PTO system that gears our chassis further for strength. I worry if the blue motors will counteract the PTO when it is engaged, but that remains to be seen.
On top of our chassis we are currently planning on running a cascade lift with a claw on top that can flip itself to the other side of the robot. The claw will essentially be a normal claw with four plastic pieces attached to four “fingers.” The plastic will be curved to match the curvature of the cups and there will be a space between the pieces of plastic that allows the little ridge on the pins to fit in. When the claw is closed, it will look like a cylinder with a slot taken out of it. Then, we will have aligners on both sides of our robot that center the robot on the goal with standoffs that act as slopes to guide the bot into place.
There are so many discussions about this. Im using a dr4b
I am a little confused with your design, more specifically about the dr4b. I don’t see the gears on it and it looks like each side (the lower and upper) of the lift are individually spun by separate motors. Please tell me if I am wrong but if I am not, I would highly recommend having gears on your lift to make the motors share more load as well as allowing the motors to be attached at symmetrical points.
Isn’t PTO banned per R11?
PTO from other parts of your robot to the drivetrain is illegal, and vice versa. you are allowed to have for example your front intake change to also spin a back intake
love the idea; but maybe rethink the cascade thing a little—I checked some cascade videos, and the speed is like 3 seconds for maximum height. in contrast, DR4B is like 0.5 secs. Also, PTO? I thought PTO was banned…
Our sister team is actually making a dr4b while we make the cascade so that we can test which one is better, as we have heard that. As for the PTO, I completely forgot about that…
Cool! I don’t have the luxury of the sister team though; guess I have to cad both…
Yes they are. I think this is something commonly missed from the game manual.
Thats a 4 bar not a dr4b
That’s a Double reverse 4 bar. A 4 bar only has 1 stage, while a DR4B has 2, as shown in that photo.
not completely banned; PTOs are only not allowed if they are related to the drivetrain
True. I guess I just think of a PTO as a drivetrain thing.
