VEX V5 Robotics Competition - Flex Wheels Update & Legal Parts List

VEX V5 Robotics Competition Competitors, Referees, Inspectors, and Others –

As you may have recently seen, the webpage for VEX Robotics Flex Wheels has been temporarily taken off the VEX Website. While I don’t have any additional information with regards to their availability for sale, and when the webpage will be restored, I would like to direct attention to the GDC’s recent QnA answer to Question #3023 with regards to the legality of Flex Wheels & their accessories.

RobotEvents Question # 3023

As the answer says, Flex Wheels and their accessories will remain legal for the VEX V5 Robotics Competition.

Additionally, we will no longer be using the VEX Robotics Website to assist in determining legality of parts. We have found it challenging to coordinate website updates with our scheduled updates to the Game Manual, and in order to prevent future unintended consequences like this one, are creating a new supplementary document to aid in determining the legality of a part for the VEX V5 Robotics Competition. This document will be further integrated into the Game Manual in the next Game Manual Update at the end of this month.

The new Legal Parts List is intended to capture all of the legal VEX Robotics parts that teams are able to utilize in building their V5 robot and will be available at the following link:

Seeing as it is a new document, we expect it will need some minor updates/revisions in the immediate future on the chance there were some mistakes/accidental omissions. As the answer to Question #3023 states, nothing that was previously legal is intended to be illegal under this new document. Please reach out to the Game Design Committee at [email protected] if you notice anything in the document that may need to be revised, or any omissions that you believe should be added.

The Game Design Committee does not have any more information with regards to the sale/availability of VEX Flex Wheels, and encourage you to reach out to the VEX Sales and/or Support team for questions/inquiries about purchasing Flex Wheels.

Thanks!

Thank you so much for this, it is a great help and was sorely needed!

Why did the green 3.25 traction wheels get bannen?

For at least the immediate future, it’s safer to assume there was an accidental omission from the sheet than it is to assume a part was banned overnight.

I just added 276-3525 3.25" Traction Wheel to the sheet.

G3 to be sure - I appreciate the hard work to turn this around so quickly!

If legal parts do change, will a notification be sent out here on VEX Forum? Or should we just periodically check the sheet from season to season to see if anything is missing?

If you read the Q&A carefully, it is stated the document is a “live document” meaning additions will be made as they come in. No notification will be sent to VEXforum. That said, expect new VEX products to the list as they are introduced. Per Game Manual, new VEX V5 products are legal as soon as they are listed on website.

This is a problem with trying to sync multiple entities at same time

If we have someflex wheels but need inserts, where can we get those since VEX does not have them? What’s legal?

Contact VEX sales to find out when they will be back in stock. If they are no longer available, you can not source them from other vendors for competition.

Also, VEX flex wheel library page is still around and describes many ways of attaching the wheel to your robot without using the inserts.

If you are talking about the Versa Hex Adapters, if I remember correctly, you could purchase them from the flex wheel product page. However, that page has since been taken down, so you might have to wait until flex wheels are back in stock.

the forum really needs to institute a way to communicate between members as I bought a bulk bag of adapters a while back and have tons now… way more than I need for my wheels.

So are they banned?? Yes or no?

Are they on the legal parts sheet ? Yes or No ?

Some Updates to the V5 Legal Parts list have been added in the past couple of weeks:

  • Various Missing Parts – Thanks to everyone that reached out with omissions, mistakes, formatting errors, etc.!
  • Column Size Adjustments – hopefully this makes the document easier to read/search/parse on Mobile
  • Part Types – New Filter to search by Part Types (Motion, Structure, Fasteners, Wheels, Electronics, etc. )
  • Home Page – Some Important Notes and guidance on the document were added here, along with R17 quoted for easy reference.

FYI – I’ve found that when opening the document on Mobile Devices, it’s best to download and use the official Google Sheets App rather than just using an internet browser. In the app you are able to use the filters, and the ‘Find’ function to search the spreadsheet. Seems like a much better user experience.

I’m interested to hear how everyone’s experience using this document has been so far! We want to make this as useful of a document as possible, so any ideas for improvement are appreciated! Feel free to comment here or email us at [email protected].

I think that maybe put all the similar parts next to each other? e.g. wheels section, spacers section, etc.
