Vex V5 Scissor Lift - Bearings or Shoulder Screws

Hello all. For this year’s season of VEX V5 Override, I’ve designed a scissor lift for the pins and cups, using bearings and shafts for the hinge points. However, this likely would cause a lot of slop if not done properly and I’ve seen people talk about using shoulder screws to get rid of this slop. I’m not sure this will work from the metal to metal contact, but will it?

I’ve been told by high level/world winning teams to use shoulder screws in situations like this. So I would assume they would work well. Good luck with the scissor lift!

Shoulder screws just minimize slop without needing a bearing. They accomplish the exact same thing as normal screw joints except with slightly more friction and require the metal to touch. I would personally go with a basic screw joint bolted on one side, you can read more about it here
