In years past, teams attending VEX Worlds in Dallas could stay at VRBO’s/AirBnB’s nearby instead of the hotels. Am I understanding correctly that this year (2025) teams are required to book a hotel room in order to register for Worlds? If this is true, this has created a large equity issue. The hotel rooms are more expensive than getting a VRBO/AirBnB and splitting the cost between families/team members. Any insight into this less than ideal change would be greatly appreciated. Has anyone found a different option to this new change?
Yes, that is true. Here is the lodging information: Hotels and travel
This is because the RECF has contracts with Dallas, and they get a discount on renting the convention center depending on how many people stay in certain hotels.
Do you have to spend the entire time in that hotel?
No, but you have to make a reservation and I think you have to check in.
Dallas teams are not included in this regulation, but it is necessary to use TTS, and at the time of team registration you are asked for the reserve pipe ID.
How does the TTS regerstration ID thing work? My team probably won’t be able to attend if we have to use a hotel for the entrie team. I was thinking about reserving the cheapest hotel possible for one night, and booking a airB&B for the rest of the time.
Once you register, it will give you a code. You just need to submit that code on robot events when you register to get a spot. They will check to make sure that your team actually paid for the room, but if you have, and the code is valid.
Not loving this since I have family in the area with which I could otherwise stay. This begs the question: is there a minimum number of nights? Surely I shouldn’t have to stay somewhere on the TTS list once the competition is over. And why should I really need to stay on the TTS list the night before if I’m say 100 miles away and want to drive in the first day?
Book a hotel and check in, then leave and go to an Airbnb.
Hi,
is everyone supposed to stay in the hotels booked through TTS? We were able to book only one room in a hotel due to availability. We went ahead with it to unblock us from the registration process.
Can the rest of the team book in a separate place outside of TTS, since room availability via TTS is a huge issue?
Yes, you can. Please read the rest of this thread. Your post got moved to this thread.
