Vex5 V5 Motor Help

I’m a new guy in Vex5 and I was wondering if anyone could explain to me what the difference was between red, green, and blue motors, and what the torque and rpm each of them have.

The speeds of these motors are different.

Red motors are the slowest. It has 100 RPM (rotations per minute) and a ratio of 36:1. These are used when you want something really strong, but slow.

Green motors are in the middle, with 200 RPM, and a ratio of 18:1. This is used for mechanisms of in-between strong vs fast.

Blue motors are the fastest motors, with 600RPM, and a ratio of 6:1. This is used for fast mechanisms, but they are often weaker.

Also, don’t be fooled by the word “red motor”. That is actually referring to the cartridge, not the motor itself.

Red: High Acceleration & Torque, Low Speed - Terrible for drive train.
Green: Boring Medium - Less terrible for drive train.
Blue: Lower Acceleration & bad Torque, High Speed - Necessity for Drivetrain

Wouldn’t you just get pushed around on the field with blue motors?

The color cartridge in your motor isn’t relevant to this. The truth is that good build quality and good defensive mechs (wedges, skirts, traction wheels) will out-perform a 15% increase in torque.

I would recommend you find a drive speed that works for your robot, between 60 and 85 in/sec, and use 6 motors on your drivetrain.
