Vexcode VR: iPad loses focus on keyboard input

I have several students using iPads on vr.vex.com assignments. That I know of, all my iPad users cannot input values for stack blocks. For example, given a stack block like “drive forward for 200 mm,” the students cannot edit the value of 200.

When the value is touched, the cursor gains focus and the keyboard pops up (like it should), but then immediately the input loses focus and the keyboard collapses out of view. It happens so quickly at times that it is hard to see the focus event at all.

Can anyone with an iPad replicate this?

Can’t replicate the issue on our iPadOS 17 or 18 Beta devices using the production version of VEXcode VR (vr.vex.com).

Can you provide any more details, or furthermore within VEXcode send feedback with diagnostic information noting your VEX Forum user name?

Thanks Tim for you response. I sent feedback today using a student iPad device. However, I didn’t add my forum username. I will send another feedback report next time this problem occurs and include my forum username. I’ll also collect specifics about iPad and browser versions.

Thanks for sending in the feedback.

I took another look and was still unable to reproduce the issue with the keyboard. I did notice that you are using iPadOS 17.5. Could you try updating to the latest version (17.6.1) and see if that fixes the issue?

We have seen a similar issue with the keyboard before in the iPad installed apps where the keyboard would cover the input and when moving the input to be visible, the keyboard would close, but we have not seen that in the web versions. We did add in a fix for that issue in previous version of the apps, but did not update VR since we did not see that in the web. It could be that the fix for the installed app versions of VEXcode will also fix the web version of VR. However, I can’t be sure about that since we have been unable to reproduce the issue and thus are unable to test to see if the issue is fixed. The next release will have the previously mentioned fix, which might also fix your keyboard issue. We are currently working on releasing new software for back to school, so a VR update will also be coming soon, but I don’t have an exact date for that release.

If anyone else has this issue, please send in feedback after the issue occurs so that we can take a look to see if there is something that we can identify that would cause this to happen.

We have BYOD classroom, but I don’t have an iPad to support them (nor have I ever been an iPad user) - so sorry for my ignorance.

I will try an upgrade with students and send feedback if any problems occur.

BTW, I saw the problem on 2 or 3 different iPad devices but only had time to submit one feedback report. However, I did see one student successfully use his iPad. I will collect more data about versions.

Thank you for your support.
