I created this forum post to help fellow students with their engineering notebooks.
If you have a question, please don’t be afraid to ask!
Note to moderators: This is a new subject as far I know, I could not find anything related.
How does this help with notebook? Robot showcase would be a possible post…
In action? Seems a little far fetched as neither on a field nor interacting with game elements…
as for new subject, plenty of notebook topics in forum that have a lot to offer about best practices - 515R subject is one of the best I have seen.
My question, what value do you propose for this new topic?
Interesting robot, care to tell us about it? I’m always interested to hear other teams approach to the game.![]()
hey, fellow notebooker here! ![]()
here are some tutorial videos that i made a bit ago that may be useful to those perusing this channel.

and more videos on the way!
hope this can help. ![]()
sorry about that, our robot just started driving and I got excited. Also I meant to put a video.
Best times ever! when robot moves is best experience!
Sorry was downer in response… Do share milestones on forum, we all want to celebrate those moments.
Example notebook page I wrote (this is from my notebook.)

I can tell you have put a lot of work into your entries. However, I have some tips. These are not meant to be insults, and I am not saying my notebook is perfect. My goal is for everyone to have a successful season.
Split it up. That paragraph at the top is monstrous. If I were a judge, I wouldn’t even touch it. Also, I see maybe 5 points in that paragraph that could use their own entry.
Give the judge what really matters. The judge doesn’t care what you did after you installed your motor caps. The judge is looking for the engineering process. That’s simply what the notebook is supposed to be.
Instead of telling the judge about every c-channel you install, tell the judge about how you plan to manage your resources. Go into detail about how you picked your drive gearing. Maybe show some math calculating the strength of your lift.
Here are some example pages from my notebook.
Thank you for opening this topic discussing notebooks and good luck in the rest of your season!
That’s hilarious! That is a good point that we format differently but we are both doing an engineering process cycle for our drivetrain. Also worth mentioning that using lots of pictures in your notebook is great because it makes the notebook less dense and easier for the judge to process. Also, a good resource is the engineering notebook rubric. That should be your main resource for notebooking as it tells you exactly what you are being scored on.
I both agree and disagree with your advice to @Rishabh_Jain24. You are absolutely correct that they should consider splitting things up, and avoid “walls of text” at all costs, but the rubric states:

This means, that there should be a lot of detail in build logs- enough that someone could recreate the robot from them. Below are some pages from one of my teams’ notebooks from last year showing one way that you can provide that degree of detail without having so many walls of text.
I agree, my teammate wrote that page and I will work with him to try to trim it down.
Absolutely. I do not mean to say cut down on the detail, I mean to say that you should use paragraph breaks, pictures, charts, tables, and maybe even videos instead of walls of text. Also maybe spit the entry into a couple of entries, like one for the drivetrain, one for the lift etc.
Im honored my jank cad made it into ur notebook ![]()
Who’s notebook had your cad?
Mine did apparently😊
If anyone could, could this and my Notebook Organization - Tips Given, Got, and to Get - #6 by soritarian1 post be merged?
maybe, i guess!
could you share some tips with us,please?
