We Need to recognize this Forum at Worlds.

The most important thing I’ve ever done as a Vex mentor is join this forum. And each year there are notable threads and contributors that advance our collective understanding of the game here and I believe they need to be recognized. There are forum icons that like Madonna, Cher and Ellen we all know by just one name, e.g. Meng and Tabor. There is always the courageous early reveal like 929W. The rookie member who quickly hits 100 posts and senior status–EvolvingJon. And the innovators like Wingus and Dingus and Stanley Shi or the institutional backbones like Aura. So can we look at formalizing some recognition even if it is just a recurring slide on the big screens in the pits. And if it comes to fruition, pics please. So we can say thanks in the halls.

And jPearman

Agreed, there should be a award for the forums at worlds

Duh, brain lapse. Of goes without saying.

I like this idea. As a mentor who has no formal training in engineering or programming I often look to the forums for advice so that I can help my team reach their potential.

The forums really help our team figure out whats going on in the vex competition, so 9210, the Storm agrees.

I second (or sixth) this. These forums, especially JPearman, have really helped our rookie team through many issues. Is it possible to add technik3k to the list? His physics posts have really helped with our code.

I definitely agree! VEX Forum has been a huuuuuuuuuuuuuge help to all the teams at my school and it’s high time it should be recognized.

I don’t know if it would be practical to formally recognize the following two but I would at least like to give some sort of acknowledgement to them for all their help:
-Game rule clarifications: Karthik spends so much time providing details on the rules to make the games fair and challenging
-Robot/novel design reveals: a great way for teams to share and build upon (literally) innovative ideas

:stuck_out_tongue: Haha, thanks. Maybe it’s just coincidence, but this is my 200th post

Anyway, I like the idea, the forums are a great place for everyone to share experiences and learn new things. There are those people out there who are just really awesome :3. (meng, jpearman, Tabor as well as a few others) who definitely deserve recognition for their efforts.

Yes, this is a great idea!

Maybe some kind of highlights from the past year on the VEX Forum video.

Ermm… Not sure how and what should I say… Since my name is in the list :stuck_out_tongue:

Really think my boys deserved the credits more than me - they were the one that built the robots. I was more like a “filler” :stuck_out_tongue:

But I do agree that some form of recognition for the forum would be nice. It might even encourage more teams or people to come forward and share about their robots or knowledge and experience.

meng, you did all the work on the forums basically by answering those 200 some questions on your reveal!

It’s actually my teams’ reveal (ok… I did nudged them a bit).
They did the vid and took the pics. And they answered quite a bit of the questions as well.

Just that they had exam to handle in the past 2 months and I tried my best to answer as much as I could. But wouldn’t dare to claim credits for all the answers. In fact, think there were quite a few instances that others helped me to answer as well :stuck_out_tongue:

I must say that it has been so far gratifying that this season round, we are in a position to contribute back to the forum

Yeah, its always nice to help others.

the other thing that the forum is really wonderful about, it helping vex be a much better learning experience for those of us on here. early in the season there was a really long an complex thread on doing projectile calculations while taking into account drag, and while it’s not really necessary or practical, it was wonderful for me to learn about all that stuff that is out there, and to push my intellectual limits, the same is true of the current thread on filter-smoother

We could have our own “forum awards” on the forum by nominating people throughout the year and having a forum poll in April.

Yeah, that would be really awesome! You could have a few different awards like “most friendly”, “most helpful” etc Then the winners would get an award (maybe something cool at worlds) or maybe like a forum badge or something. Its would add a little more competition to the forum :3

If I am going to try to compete against Jpearman I will have to up my game.

Think we can all pack up and go home… :stuck_out_tongue:

Quality vs Quantity is what people want to strive for.
