What are good things to know before attending worlds?

Our school has three teams going to worlds for the first time in many years. What are some good things to know beforehand? Are matches run differently? Thank you in advance.

You have a number that’s very close to the end. We did too, and it was a long walk from the pits to the field. We almost missed 2 matches. It won’t be as big, since the venue changed, but still give yourself more time than you think you need. Otherwise, it’s pretty normal, just a better experience.

hey @Rivaan,

the REC Library is a great place to start for basic info and tips

congratulations and good luck!

Tons of information here: https://recf.org/vex_worlds/about-vex-worlds/. Make sure to note the agenda, and that matches will likely run on time or well ahead of time. It really it up to the divisions whether they will wait for a match’s time to come before starting a match, but chances are if you aren’t watching the match number they are one (NOT the scheduled time, even if updated) and you end up queuing late, you might miss your match. I always planned to leave 10 minutes before the time we wanted to queue (so even more before the match unless we were nearby our division) to be sure. Otherwise, worlds is a lot of fun, and if things happen to not be going well, take a breather and just enjoy the event!

my team has qualified for worlds the first time this year, but unfortunately the team members cannot go so one person is going solo. weve made sure that they know how to build, code and have driver practice etc, but are there any extra tips you would have that would help, thanks!

VEX Worlds has a store in the venue if you break a part and need a replacement, so bring extra money in case of such an emergency, as the event is a couple days long.

Exchange stickers and ask for stickers!

Some of the greatest lifelong friendships may happen from worlds so I encourage socializing and talking around!

Protect your robot and your pit. Always have someone there in the pits at all times. There has been instances of theft and vandalism at worlds, which is an inevitability given how many people are at the event. → Make sure to hide your robot or put it in a locked box when not in use if you wish to keep the robot at the venue overnight.

How many matches are normally played at worlds?

In past years, teams have been allowed 1 practice match, and 10 qualification matches.

12 qualification matches for High School V5RC this year. I like that as it provides for a larger sample and I would think is likely to be more fair. My teams however are worried about the extra wear and tear.

Yeah, but I think its 4 days
