Especially early season, I expect teams won’t be able to score in the middle tower as easily with this design. Too much testing, and with lockdowns, not everyone will have the time to practice on an actual field. 4bar designs only have to drop the balls, rather than launch them, making it substantially easier in the testing phase.
If you just don’t design your flywheel to have a lot of power, then this shouldn’t be a problem. If your bot just drops the balls out of your hood instead of shooting them you should be able to score in the center as long as you line up straight.
Yes exactly. And by the way the snail bot doesn’t have to have a fly wheel like some do you can also have a huge indexer like 99999vs design as well. You don’t have to think of it as just a fly wheel. And plus you are going tune it anyways no matter once to be as efficient as possible so it wouldn’t really matter
here is the thing there is only one element this year so there wont be 2 designs
in tp u had ball bots and cap bots
in tt u had stack(tray) and tower bots
this year there can and will be only one meta (FORGET ABOUT 12 FOOT WALLBOTS FOR A SEC)
i believe that meta is the snail later in the season we may see a double snail (something with a small chute on the back for hording 3 balls but for now the snail is the prevailing design and i believe it will stay that way
and to anyone who wants to build a shooting bot good luck maybe if u have a color sensor looking for the green but even then i dont think anyone will really do well shooting a 6.3 inch ball into a 7.1 inch hole
but thats just me
In tp you had flywheels, punchers, and catapults. There are many instances where different methods succeed at manipulating the same game object. Just because there is a single game object this year doesn’t mean there is 1 single approach to the game.
could you explain the two-chute thing a little more?
no we will probably see different variations of a snail but i doubt there will be another meta
like some teams will use wheels some teams will use braided roolers some teams will use chain there will be varaition sure
like with fly wheels punchers and catapults they all did bacickly the same thing just with a slightly different design
im sure the snail will evolve but i still think a snail bot will win worlds it may be two snails or a snail and a wall bot but snail will do the best scoring i belive
like u have the cycling thing in the front and in the back u have a little chute to horde the opponents balls
it only has to be able to intake so maybe even a passive mechanism like a valve
I agree with this. My point was not to suggest that a different meta would be viable, but to show that robot metas are not correlated to the number of game objectives.
The best robots always do every task. In TP, shooting robots also scored caps on posts. In Skyrise, teams scored sections and cubes.
One thing that I don’t see prevailing is a 3 ball hoarding mechanism. Why hoard 3 balls when that prevents you from picking up any others? You would honestly not want to hoard more than 1, and then that isn’t really hoarding so much.
no they would be seprate meckinisims
also if u have more that 3 of your own ball ur doing skills weirdly or your doing something wrong
This is not an actual ruling.

As long as the first thing you do after you momentarily possess more than 3 balls is eject the extra(s), you will be fine.
I know that. Meaning you putting yourself into the line of fire of the rules to some degree. To me, putting myself at a disadvantage isn’t going to help me win any more even if it has a slight tradeoff benefit. At that point, you still have 10 opponent balls minimum in the field, they can still get all of the row bonuses, and you have successfully impaired the robot’s level of function.
not if its a separate mechanism
I would definitely agree with this, it’s relatively unlikely an ENTIRELY different style of design emerges as a near equal competitor. However within a more specific range of hood bots, I imagine there may be many different successful designs. Much like the traybot “meta” in TT, lots of different styles of traybost ended up very successful.
but this year there wont be a complimentary off meta
One could argue that wall bots may become the complimentary, but its unlikely
Disagree here. I say there is ALWAYS branching off of the meta. Examples include trapdoor/non trap door, hoarder/non hoarder as well as size of hoarder, flywheel "launcher/non “launcher”, wrap around the goal hood or half hood (90° angle). And these are just wha’s out early season. It’s not unlikely more branch off ideas or other integrated designs emerge as well. I would consider all these features and the others that emerge to be compliments off the original “meta”, which was a very basic hood that had none of these features.
