What do you guys think are the best drive train options for override. Any photos or cads for inspiration?
Also here is the pro/con of x drive
Pro
Fast, omnidirectional
Con
Irregular shape, hard to code
We were leaning towards and H drive because of the cons you listed. We were thinking of just adding a horizontal wheels so that we can go side to side because i’ve seen a lot of teams with and h drive get stuck in between the goals and the wall. What would the cons of having the horizontal wheels be. I already know we would be capped at a 44w drive as we need a 5.5w on the horizontal wheel.
@Ethan26 did a great job of going over the different holonomic drives in this post H or X? (Drivetrain Dispute) - #5 by Ethan26 Taking a look at it might be helpful.
Tbh, tank drive will really be the only viable drive once the season starts. The only real people of h or x drives is the ability to strafe, but this game requires strafing even less than push back since the goals can be scored from any angle.
Sure for “inspiration” it’s just a driver train. Build one and test it, after using edp to choose the best option
I feel the ability to strafe is necessary because from the early season tournaments, a lot of team are getting stuck in between the wall and the goal. That’s the only problem I see with the h drive compared to x.
Strafing is kinda needed, for example at the starting of the match, there are premade stacks directly to the side of the robot, and strafing gets to the stack so much faster than a tank. This is seen in several placements on the field.
