I don’t know the difference and what each one specializes in, I’ve seen articles and templates mention these but I don’t know the importance of each. How important are tracking wheels?
Hey! As far as I’m aware, tracking wheels and Odom wheels refer to the same concept. That is, using perpendicular wheels connected to rotation sensors to calculate the robot’s position of the course of the match. While they definitely aren’t strictly required, and many teams get by without them, they’ve been indispensable to me and my team these past few years. The math can be a little daunting at first, but the concepts underlying the equations are pretty simple. I’d definitely recomend!
As for an IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit), it is basically a sensor that measures acceleration and gyroscopic change in rotation. The Inertial sensor is basically an IMU. (Or, more accurately, the inertial sensor contains an IMU and relays that information to the brain.) Any odometry system would use one of these in conjunction with the wheels.
Hope this helps!
Ohhhh, thank you for the explanation!!
