What is your favorite VEX IQ drivetrain

Drivetrains are the most impotent part of a robot.
But there are a lot of different types of drivetrains, so I wanted to see what your favorites are.

please include pictures if you can

Classic 2 motor 2:1 never failed us. Very simple and reliable.

My favourite drivetrain is probabely when I use 2:1 speed with 6 wheels, 2 center ones for traction and grip and more consistant breaking and 4 omni wheels. It has great turning and drives straight well. It doesnt work for full park, thats a separate drivetrain.

Dual drive motor base with Omni wheels on the front, traction wheels on the back of the stretched frame, motors / wheels connected by chain with a 12 tooth idler on a shock as a tension method; coupled with a 90 degree omni wheel / motor to make it an H drive. Base drives tank with left and right sticks for forward and back, both sticks side to side activate the center omni/motor.

Front can be closed to get more build space, or open to allow game elements to enter. Battery / brain weight is on the traction wheels in the back. You can move the C/G around some by where the drive and strafe motors are placed.

For this years game with teams needing a lot of weight in the back having the 3 drive motors in line, (under the brain), shifted a lot of the weight back to offset larger baskets / intakes in the front. (The rectangular motor brackets makes it pretty easy to build a “Block-o- Motors” )

Remember that the strafe omni can be on a longer shaft to keep it in the middle of the frame and have the motor a few inches away.

That what we use except we add tration wheels on the middle 24 tooth gears

I built one of those and I had problems with the traction wheels getting traction. :expressionless: how did you solve yours.

That’s what my team built this year and I like how easy it is to build on top of.

Never mind I switched out the traction wheels and now it works. :expressionless:

Do you have an overhead photo of this that you’d be willing to share? It sounds incredible and versatile. We toyed with the idea of an H Drive omni this year but couldn’t justify the use of a 3rd motor for the drive train. It’s all about tradeoffs!

Search is your friend

If you put omni’s all around it will move left to right (translate), if you put tractions on the back then it will have more of a swing action. That’s what the team wanted to be able to move the dumper from side to side to line up with the goal.

Nice articles (and there are some older ones that are pretty interesting too)

I like the drift concept, I can imagine in a match that it was a real crowd pleaser.

I strongly second this one. H-Drive (1:1 or direct) and Tank Drive (2:1 geared) but we also connect the output gears directly to the rear wheels and then connect the rear and front wheels with a chain so that we have 4 wheel drive.

Our team wanted to do an H-Drive last year but we just couldn’t spare a motor. This year though, they were able to build the above drive train and so far it’s awesome!

Look at this video and wholecount this drivetrain and you should be good.
