Our team is using tank treads for our drivetrain, and after some questionable detachments (read: losing one or both tracks every match), we’ve determined we’ll likely need the Tank Tread Kit (276-6558). However, this part is frustratingly out of stock, as with many other VEX parts. Any clue as to when this part could be back (or alternatives for the tensioners?)
I would suggest using vex support for that. You can email them from there.
@ThorntonRobotics I would greatly suggest not using tank treads as they break very easily as you have found out, and I am assuming you have the older version of the treads which my team and others found to be more reliable than the new version. But I would switch to a different drive train if I were you. Until Vex releases a tank tread kit that doesn’t break from barely being hit I don’t see them being viable.
Thanks for the advice.
We’ve already considered changing the drivetrain, and we’re trying to protect the treads to avoid them coming off on contact with another robot. For us, the torque and versatility is currently outweighing the problems, though that’s probably going to change. Thanks for the feedback - our team’s only been around a year and all of us are new to this, so we’re (for lack of a better term) winging it.
