Our team decided to wait on purchasing pneumatics unless we qualified for Worlds. We ended up qualifying this last Friday, but now we can’t find any in stock. If you have any info on where we could find some that are legal, that would be appreciated.
If you are unfamiliar with using pneumatics as a middle school team, why risk it? Instead focus on hardening the technologies and techniques you are confident will work?
(this from MS coach who had team go pneumatics and then returned back to technologies and techniques they were confident with…)
While I agree from a “let’s win every competition” stand point, the entire point of VEX Robotics from what I can see, is to teach kids how to do things they have never done before. Putting them in situations where they have to use their brain and think about possible solutions to the situation that they are in. Maybe they have something they would like to add to their robot, and pneumatics could help make the robot have a better design.
I think that if they can get their hands on it, and start as early as they will be, it would be great for them to learn how the pneumatics work. They might have a rough time this year, but pneumatics are a great addition to anyones robot if they can figure out how to use it.
Let the kids learn, and grow. Its great for them, now, and later. Knowing how to use pneumatics later on will definitely benefit them later on. Trust me.
I appreciate your concern but my team has taken multiple things into account. The way our robot is designed we are using all 8 motors at the moment with only 2 expansion strings. our roller mechanism and intake are connected, with the addition of pneumatics we would be able to free up a motor as well as add 2-4 more strings for expansion (which already can cover about 20 tiles.)
We are trying to compete at the most competitive level we can, we believe that pneumatics would help us do that. We have been observing the high school robots from our program and have a few ideas of how we could go about this. needless to say, we are prepared and ready to put time into learning how to use them.
Solenoid driver cables only come from vex. For other components, try smc pneumatics, radwell.com, or motion industries
Good luck.
Search forum, there has been equivalent parts posts (multiple times).
I have a new Pneumatics Kit 2 - Double Acting Cylinders. full price + tax + shipment of your choice.
Thank you, I will ask my team If they would be interested. (I am the notebooker, so I don’t have the most amount of influence) I am pretty sure they would be interested.
