Which lift is best for override

What lifts are y’all’s teams using? I was thinking of a dr4b or cascade but idk which is faster. To me, speed is the biggest priority but I’m not sure about the pros of cons for each lift since I’m pretty new to vex. Plz help cuz I’m kinda stuck

We’re probably using DR4B, Cascade can be unreliable under heavy loads (especially with Vex chain), although I’ve never used a cascade. It still may work for this season, though, because you won’t be lifting a lot due to possession limits. So, for you, try both, and see which one works better for you.

DR4B is definitely faster and likely will get more hight but a cascade lift has a higher max expansion. My team is pretty confident that the DR4B is the way to go. My team is also new this will be our second year competing and our third year working with the parts. The cascade lift is really only worth it if you are going to use it to its fullest and squeze as much as you can in the space limit.

Speed and being constant should be your main focus.

I was thinking of either a 4 bar like you mentioned, or a 6 bar. This is because I really want to take advantage of the massive vertical expansion limit, and I’m not sure if a 4 bar will be tall enough.

A cascade will probably work, but it is way more annoying to build, and it’s also probably slower.

btw, for anyone wondering what a 4/6 bar is and how to build it…

this explanation and demo by Kepler Electronics is really useful. This video specifically focuses on a dr4b.

I was leaning more towards a dr4b but i was just a little unsure cuz a lot of better teams in my org were set on cascade. tysm for the help

Now, for V5 this design may work but I’m heavily concerned about how much more agressive the V5 system is compared to the smaller motors in V4.

For reference, most robots with V4 were rocking a 6 motor V4 drive. Thats the equivalent of 3 of the V5 motors.

Remember your possession limit!

6 bar will probably be better, but 4 bar will work early season.

it is not a must to use vex chains, since you can also use string with pulleys

I agree that a 6 bar is likely better in an ideal world but I have done the math as well as mading a prototype cad design. I have gotten the expansion up to 48 inches without even stressing the 18" collapsing limit. with a long starting point and a deep collapse point a 4 bar works well.

I just want to know from you what is your team going to use, i want to see what my team should build next year

also if you don’t know what DR2b is this is a good vid https://youtu.be/L37lHD0oB54 and this is a good video for cascade https://youtu.be/Yta_Nk7crSI

Dr2b but not dr4b is criminal :sob:

Ehhh. I think dr4b is enough. Well built dr4b and reach roughly 45 inches from just estimating with two c channels, so it shouldn’t be that hard and 6bar can work but no huge advantage

keplers guide to dr2b is the most insane tutorial I’ve ever seen

by dr2b i meant dr4b

what about a vertical cascade linear lift?

I would love to see more teams attempt to build a cascade lift but for now I think dr6b will be the meta.

what about scissor lift

Its the best lift design
