Windows 11 Laptop doesn't detect VEX V5 Controller or Brain

After using the VEXcodeV5 program, I tried connecting my robot brain and controller to my laptop, but nothing happens. My device manager doesn’t even detect the devices, and I’ve tried three different cables. I also tried using multiple computers, but none of them detected the devices either. I’ve also swapped controllers and brains, but to no avail. Restarting my PC didn’t work, and I’ve already reinstalled the VEXcodeV5 app. What should I do to fix this?

Is the brain on when you plug it in? If it is, I really can’t thing of any other issues. It may be the port on the brain, but as you said… [quote=“Kaiber406, post:1, topic:125956”]
I’ve also swapped controllers and brains

So… I’m not totally sure. You might have to wait for someone who knows what their doing to help you :upside_down_face:

Could you take a picture or tell us:

  • The ports you are using
  • computer version
  • Cable type
  • Any other info that you think might help

This will help with troubleshooting.

Make sure no other applications are open that might taking control of the serial ports - sometimes 3D Printer software or other applications that communicate with external devices may interfere with VEXcode being able to “grab” the serial port for communication.

I’m using an Inspiron 3593 laptop with the Windows 11 Home edition on version 22H2.
I’m using a microUSB cable to connect the computer to the controller/brain. I’m a new user so I can only put 1 photo per post, hope these help:

Ignore the upside down brain placement :upside_down_face:

I also wasn’t able to think of anything that might be taking control over my serial ports. When I plug in the device my computer doesn’t even register that anything has been plugged in, but the controller still charges when it’s plugged in.

I understand you said you tried three different cables, but just to be sure have you made sure that you are using DATA Micro USB cables? Some cables do not have the capacity to transfer data.

You can go to Settings on the V5 Brain and flip the view right side up …
