XG or Robohive?

In your opinion, which one is better in general(not just scoring)?

We started building a Robohive(no copying), so in my opinion Robohive is better.

If you are building a Robohive then you are, by definition, copying. Same with XG. Changing a few parts here or there does not constitute an “original” design. Ben Lipper’s “pseudo-hive” was different enough to be somewhat original from Robohive, so might be somewhat of an exception. So long as you give credit where it is due then I guess it’s OK. If competing in tournaments where the referees and/or judges have a good idea what Robohive or XG are, I would argue the copy bots should not be eligible for any of the judged awards since the only “engineering” a team does is “reverse-engineering” from a picture or video. I am sure others will disagree with me though - they certain have disagreed with me on some online forums lol.

Personally, I didn’t enjoy watching the few livestreams I have seen where those two are essentially the only bots participating (maybe with a Simfu or two in the mix). I would rather see modified Flops or unique claw or catapult bots, even if they are not as efficient as hive or xg. Again, that is just my personal opinion though.

Before switching to a Robohive, we tried building some sort of hybrid, but it didn’t turn out well since we didn’t have space for a loading mechanism, and our catapult sucks. This is just a last resort for a final catapult design.
