But with no expansion limits you could block your opponent’s whole protected zone without actually touching it. However, this also gives your opponent the opportunity to legally destroy your robot since it’s a “wall-bot”.

“Note: A Robot which has expanded horizontally in an effort to obstruct the field, or is legally covering the top of a Tower in a solely defensive manner, should expect vigorous interactions from opponent Robots. Damage that is caused by opponent Robots pushing, tipping, or Entan- gling with them would not be considered a violation of . Gratuitous damage or dangerous mechanisms may still be considered a violation of , , or at the Head Referee’s discretion.”
I may have exaggerated a little, but this is the quote from the rule book that I’m refering to.

it does not say in the appendix A what the weight of a cube is. does anyone know?

Yes they specified in the manual that you should be prepared for heavy defense if you have a “wall-bot”.
