2021 - 2022 VEX Robotics Competition - Tipping Point

Ever since I watched the Tipping Point unveil, I’ve been getting numerous Pringles ads. Actually.
Get stacking. Hmm…

For anyone curious how the platform tips:

Nice animation! That does a great job of illustrating the joint at the pivot.

Any ideas for designs?? Such as intake designs, lift designs, chassis, mobile goal lifts, etc.
I’m thinking that it will be like in the zone with mogo (mobile goal) lifts inside the robot where you could lift the red/blue goals up.

Right. Now, I’m seriously kind of a speed up 6 motor drive and a super fast mogo lift that can get 2 goals at once. If you ask me, mogos are more important than rings and platforms.

If you check the rules, you may only possess 1 goal at a time. That probably means that we can’t hold one and touch a mobile goal at the sane time.

Might want to check the rules again
And if you can’t find it in the rules it has been stated in many other posts today.

actually there is no possession limit on goals. The only thing the manual says is that you cannot hoard more than 1 mobile goal at once. the definition of hoarding is:

Hoarding – A form of Possession. A Robot is Hoarding if it is in Possession of any Mobile Goal in either
of the two (2) corners of the field in their own Alliance Home Zone (i.e. positioned in the corner roughly
the size of one foam field tile). See for more information.

to simplify, you can hold as many mobile goals as you want, just not possess more than one in the cornermost tiles of your side of the field.

additionally the definition of possession does not include merely touching a goal.

Possession – A Robot is considered to be in Possession a Mobile Goal if any one of the following criteria are met: 1. The Robot is carrying, holding or controlling the movement of a Mobile Goal such that if the Robot changes direction, the Mobile Goal will move with the Robot. Therefore, pushing / plowing Mobile Goals is not considered Possession, however using concave portions of your Robot to control the movement of Mobile Goals is considered Possession. 2. The Robot is actively blocking opposing Robot’s access to Mobile Goals, such as by expanding horizontally and restricting access to a portion of the field. 3. Robots on the same Alliance working in tandem to block access to Mobile Goals would share the Possession of said Mobile Goal.

Look at rule SG7 Hoarding of Mobile Goals is limited.Robots may not Hoard more than one (1) Mobile Goal at once

game definitions: hoarding vs possession

hoarding is cornering a goal, and blocking it from any attempts to be stolen by opponents

possession is essentially the movement or holding of a goal.

there is rules preventing hoarding, but not possession

Also look at the appendix that gives all the details about field and game objects - link in OP .

If you need expert advice about how to approach the game, I would recommend reviewing @Foster 's thread …

[humor intended … ]

It’s pretty clear that they’re meant to have guard rails, I’m just surprised that the renders in the manual seem to show an old version.

Indeed, and I think you hit a good point here - Game Manual illustrates the game and field elements, while the specifications are precise definition of the implementation of the game and field elements and their respective tolerances. Think of NYC Subway 70’s representation of the routes compared to the actual geographic placements (recent decade versions have been better). It is a great graphic design challenge to meet the needs of the user, the function, and implementation.

For those interested visual explanations, look at Edward Tufte’s work.

Back to Game Manual - good to know their are guard rails to prevent robots sliding off side … and maybe they provide more structural strength to the deck.

Ok that’s it, I’m making a Pneumatics tutorial.

Where can you find the cad file for this game? sorry if this is obvious, im pretty new to this.

Look at the first post of this thread.

I just broke the game tonight. I can’t leek it to u, but like, I found something, that only intellectuals would think of. Guaranteed match wins, Tipping Point has some bad game design, lul.

Wait, so there is a strat that people came up with that is a guaranteed win???

I think its probably just taking the high neutral mogo during the auton and just keep it for the rest of the match

Probably
