2021-2022 VRC Game Predictions

But wood is made of carbon fibers.

They are made of cellulose.
And cellulose is mostly carbon.
And cellulose is a fiber.

He’s kinda correct

Also carbon fiber isn’t easily inflatable so…

For those who are interested, this thread has some more information on CF.

Wall bot meta would be kinda sick like another starstruck

I think it would be really cool if there was a challenging task that only one robot per alliance could do. Maybe like a park or something like like a hang. That way, the best possible alliance would be a scoring bot and a slightly weaker scoring bot that could also hang.

The problem I see with this is that RNG would be a much bigger factor in the qualification rounds. If there was a game like this, I think most teams would gravitate towards building a endgame/scoring bot vs a optimized scoring bot to eliminate the RNG of having a partner that can hang. Optimized scoring bots would have to hope that they get a endgame bot or they have a huge risk of not winning the match because the endgame could possibly swing the match in favor of an alliance with an endgame bot. In alliance selection, optimized bots would have to probably have to rely on endgame bots to pick them.

It would be cool if you could even have a mounting bracket or something on your robot so you could have interchangeable mechanisms based on your partner.

Each mechanism needs at least one motor and I don’t really see it viable to have motors changed, wires replaced, weight changed, code different, inspecting multiple subsystems, etc. I do think it would be cool and add more modular variety to robots, but will probably not be possible for most teams.

This would be a good idea, but it would require a few changes to the game manual in the future, since currently, changing out mechanisms is actually considered “creating a second robot”, which would mean you have broken the criteria to pass inspection.

not necessarily.

the important part of <r1> states:

• Subsystem 1: Mobile robotic base including wheels, tracks, legs, or any other mechanism that allows
the Robot to navigate the majority of the flat playing field surface. For a stationary Robot, the robotic
base without wheels would be considered Subsystem 1.
• Subsystem 2: Power and control system that includes a legal VEX battery, a legal VEX control
system, and associated motors for the mobile robotic base.
• Subsystem 3: Additional mechanisms (and associated motors) that allow manipulation of game
objects or navigation of field obstacles.
Given the above definitions, a minimum Robot for use in any VEX Robotics Competition event (including
Skills Challenges) must consist of 1 and 2 above. Thus, if you are swapping out an entire subsystem of
either item 1 or 2, you have now created a second Robot and are no longer legal.

So the manual allows a complete switch out of anything that falls under subsystem 3, which is any mechanisms besides the foundation or control system of the robot.

what’s kind of strange is that according to this rule it’s illegal to replace every drive motor, battery, brain and controller you’re robot uses during an event. of course I think common sense would apply here that if somehow all your drive motors, brain, radio, batter, and controller broke during an event you’d be allowed to replace them.

common sense needs to be applied throughout this rule since it’s impossible to objectively define when a modification renders your robot a different robot.

Ah, okay, thank you for the insight. I apologize for not reading the game manual more thoroughly.

Yeah, this is kind of an interesting thought. Of course you are correct about common sense being applied, but that’s interesting to think about since it goes against what we usually do when something goes wrong within these subsystems.

So then it seems like this would actually be possible according to the game manual. You could theoretically already make a mounting bracket on your own, but I can see where this is coming from; you want something that’s simpler to mount the mechanisms to.

I see them making an easy non-swing game, with some kind of shooting aspect. RECF and VEX are going to be looking towards making a game that drives up interest after the number of teams they lost this year and getting teams back and excited for the new season. Also, shooting games are just in general more fun to watch from an audience perspective (at least from my opinion).

My hopes and dreams: disk shooting game style like Nothing but Net with a hang at the end

I think it would be best if teams shot disks and some other irregularly shaped objects. Do like the hang/park idea.

watch it be a glorified hop-skotch. So predictable. XD

Anyone wanna talk abou…

nvm, don’t wanna get banned

Might I suggest we lock this thread for the… time being?

yeah we maybe should lol

Please don’t ace my post too but we definitely need to close this for now.
