Rhombicuboctahedrons
Or just octaballs as @76782AHighVoltage said in their post
Yes this is certainly going to be interesting. Especially considering how expansion roles are going to play out (me thinking how big of a bucket bot hoarding opposing color pieces is gonna be)âŚ
But this is certainly going to be a very, very defensive game.
And one last thought: why does the hero bot actually look good. Usually theyâre very stripped down, but this one certainly seems to be viable. But I do wonder how people are going to build it with the competition kits, as there are some elements in the robot that I donât see in a competition kit.
There are two distinct parts to the game: loading elements into the game, and scoring them. There does not appear to be sufficient elements in the field to fill up all the goals, so some loading will be necessary (and to remove those of the opponentâs color in the loaders, I can see poopers from change up coming back). So robots will have to alternate between defending goals and âloading upâ elements to fill and defend said goals.
Battles over the centers of the goals I can see coming - though the mechanisms for that should be interesting (intake lifts? linear rail pushers? ratcheting pushers?
But there are also some annoying niche strategies I can see coming up:
Robots this year I can see being a bit slower than last year and over under. 1 motor intakes and 1 motor pushers or something like that will probably be the composition of most robots.
Intakes will look like change up intakes due to the geometry of the loaders. Maybe we can see a resurgence of the big tray robots like in tower takeover, albiet modified to store these elements.
The vex website said this requires 4x field element players, but looking at the field it seems like it will require atleast 5. Is there a mistake somewhere? Where do the 4 field element plates go?
So we are going with octoballs? I assumed because theyâre officially blocks we should call the octoblocks.
This challenge is interesting, I dont think we can say too much until Sunday when we get more info. Descore looks insane though. Expansion could also be really fun
We are thinking that you wonât be able to contact outside tiles or field elements that are contacting outside tiles.
yeah those 30 points could really matter in a match. its probably impossible to know until the game manual gets released in 2 days
i think they are called octoballs
one of my friends are currently cadding a bot for the competition. its not exactly like the hero bot but is pretty close
when do you guys think that the âmetaâ is going to be made?
can you send the link here please?
@76782AHighVoltage has already coined the term âoctoballsâ in his post that shows a first look robot design and he uses octoballs to describe the scoring object. I truly like this term and feel it should be the name of the scoring object. Lets vote.
Based on what the reveal showed, Iâm guessing that a robot has to be touching the tile in the parking zone and not touching any other tiles on the field.
I thought the wheel on the intake is 2.75?
Could I have it if you donât mind
Where could I get this cad?
This seems like a fun game for tetherbots, i wonder what the sizing is
If anyone needs the CAD file of the octoballs/blocks i posted it here:
Depending on how light the blocks are pyro should bring back their air cannon
From my initial analysis, I think that robot design will almost be completley defined by wether the loading tubes can be used during auton.
I completely predicted the game object, by the way.
