2025-26 VEX V5 Robotics Competition Game: Push Back

In 2013-2014: Toss Up there were Buckyballs. Wonder why RECF didn’t push for the game to use them? It would have dropped the cost to engineer the game elements. They would have had all the old tooling information and could have produced those balls at a lower cost.

The V5 game elements are getting expensive, this could have helped drop the cost some.

I think that will be changed after the first few events especially after signature events

I feel like making a heavy front/back, along with some sort of pneumatic “jump button” on the other end might work.

My team is considering using a flexible hose like mechanism for the lift. This would allow us to raise and lower the hose lift for scoring in the different tubes. What are you guys thinking for scoring in the different tubes?

@VEX_GDC sg2 is (hopefully) written wrong. The diagonal of a 18x18 bot is 25 inches so it literally requires cutting the corrners for a bot to fit in the 22 inch circle created by sg2b.

If this is intentional for some reason this vastly changes robot (specifically drivetrain) design and I am very interested what caused this change.

hey any thoughts on SG2 in the .1 rulebook? it seems so limiting to have the expansion box limited by field orientation, right? also, the way it’s worded it sounds like the robot will not be able to exceed a 22" circle all the time, with the words
;;No horizontal dimension may exceed 22” (558.8 mm) at any point during the Match.;;

and with the way it talks about it in the rulebook it seems like that includes diagonals too. so having an 18 x18 ‘’ robot is illegal, because the diagonal would be 25.456’'.

The polycarbonate pieces can only be 4x8 inches or smaller and you can only cut 12 of them. This will be interesting for intake ramps…

I’m thinking of having a main intake/conveyor that can score on the top center goal and have a ramp extender for the long goals and then just outtake for the low center goal

I was thinking the same thing. I figure a bot that has a vertical roller intake on both ends of the bot could be used to pick up the octoballs from the front or back. Then I think the robot could either use pneumatics or a motor to lift the conveyor, so it can reach the long and top goals. I’ll try to cad it, but I’ve never caded before, so it may be a long and bumpy ride for my sanity :face_exhaling:

About the expansion rules, since the horizontal expansion does not rotate with the robot, does that mean your robot can not be exactly 18*18, since when rotated, it will exceed 22 inches??

You were correct. Expansion rules, as written in the v0.1 of the manual, really have profound effect on the game.
For example, they make your 18x18x18" hero bot in violation the very second the match starts.
