With how easy they are to dent it may not be the best idea . But it should work , A cata short one would work .
I think this is actually a fairly viable strategy. Especially early season I think with a good driver that design could take you very far.
It’s possible block the vertical elevation bar?
For example, using a net, but without touching the bar.
just we will use for the final part
It´s this legal idea?
ABSOLUTELY not, no I’m Just playing but no I don’t like the idea
I don’t think anyone here has talked about Purdue SIGbot’s Ri3D build yet. I think it’s a viable strategy. Just sit next to the loading station, have your hp place the acorns on a catapult, launch them over the long barrier, and have your tm push them in the goal. Plus, I don’t think that high climb is gonna be all that, except maybe for worlds. Just push an opponent bot next to your climb bar until the last 5-10 seconds, and just quickly climb up to B or C level and boom that’s up to 40 points if your tm does the same thing.
I dont see how it is not legal - especially if you are not touching the opponent bar and any robot that is hanging.
but do take note that this means most likely you will be “out of action” for the last 30 sec… and a lot of things can happen in 30 sec.
how meta will cata be
Not a lot, I think slingshot will be a bit more popular this time.
I think just due to wind up times that cata might overtake slingshots.
This is just my opinion, but i think a 20 rpm cata might be it.
Secondary benefit of cata is you have a strong ratcheted arm that might also elevate the bot, Motor(s) doing two things is always good.
One potential flaw I see with the strategy of launching balls from the loading station is that launching from the same position every time makes it easy for a robot on the other team to block the launches over the barrier and deflect the triballs into their offensive zone for 2 points. (correct me if I am wrong on the scoring rule here)
There is no limit on vertical expansion so even if the launcher has a high arc, someone else can make an effective blocking device.
I actually never even thought about that. Though I could tune it to launch the triballs just across the long barrier so that if an opponent tries to block it, it would prohibit them from scoring, unless it’s double zoned, in which it wouldn’t make sense to be at the loading station.
I think that flywheel will be even faster then cata or slingshot if you can get it to work with the spheroforms of tetrahedral symmetry, (and I have a few ideas). But cata will be meta for those not willing to put in the time investment of figuring out "how the heck do I use a flywheel on this shape.
should go through a flywheel just like a sphere.
Sorry for being stupid, but what really is the difference between the catapult and a slingshot? I’ve researched but haven’t found anything.
Yea, but the tri-balls are huge, and would require a big intake and shooter. It’s also not a sphere, so depending on how you pick it up, you might not be able to launch it far.
Their geometric properties would have them move through a bot much like a ball.
3141 posted a video of their change up bot intaking and launching triballs a short distance with a relatively soft roller and almost no compression. Team 3141 RI -3Y | Vex Over Under - YouTube
I suspect a build to actually throw them is possible. Whether or not its a wise strategy is another question.
you could also use the new 5.5w motors and two of those equate to one normal motor.
Using the 2 5.5w is not equivalent to using one 11w motor. 2 5.5w motors weigh 228g combined whereas a 11w motor weighs 155g. The stall torque of a 5.5w motor is 0.5nm whereas the stall torque of a 11w motor is 2.1nm with a red cartridge. Im conclusion, using 2 5.5w is more inefficient due to total weight of the motor and the fact that 11w motor is compatible with internal motor cartridges meaning the gearing for high torque system is more compact.
My idea was use a cascade lift that will use a medium gear and big gear , why gear’s because that our lift doesn’t have to do lot of work. (Motors) but it will add weight to robot. Just my idea.
