Makes sense, I’ve primary used the 60a flex wheels for my flywheel, so I haven’t that issue.
Does this look like a secure mount for a flywheel?
Yes, except do not trust those plastic lock bars they strip very very easily.
I guess we just have to replace those every so often. I don’t think we have the metal ones.
Also, is it better to have screws going through the holes on the flex wheel or should I put standoffs inside them?
You should probably do standoffs, screws will start to squish the wheel vertically if you tighten them too much and will take up more vertical space.
You could use LS shafts on the smaller holes of the flex wheel. It doesn’t stretch it as much, adds some extra weight, and lines up with the holes on the flywheel weights.
What is in the flex wheels? I can’t tell.

Personally i found that sandwiching 1 inch stand offs between two 36 tooth high strength gears is better you place the stand offs in the center then put the gears it barely stretches the hole and doesnt widen or flatten the flex wheel at all
We’ve done something like this on the flex wheels that we aren’t using for flywheels, and can confirm generally good results.
How did you fit the 2 standoffs in the flex wheels holes with a 60a? I was just wondering because our team as been having some trouble with the stiffness of them and we find it very difficult to get a standoff in.
My teams have been doing this since flex wheels were first made legal for VRC. They tried many options and this was by far their favorite. We bought some hubs this year, but many of the kids are still using this method, primarily for the compression difference that drove you to experiment.
Put standoffs in three holes and then put a rubberband to compress it. Works great for rollers.
We just use a pair of pliers and shove it in there
