I’ve been thinking about building a small app/tool for the VEX community, but before starting anything, I wanted to hear from people with more experience.
What are some common problems, repetitive tasks, or frustrations that teams deal with throughout the season that you think could be improved with a simple app or digital tool?
I’m mainly thinking about things related to competition prep, scouting, match analysis, team organization, tracking performance, notebooks, practice sessions, or anything else that tends to be inefficient or annoying.
I’m not looking for huge, unrealistic ideas, just practical problems where you’ve thought something like “there should really be an easier way to do this.”
I’d really appreciate hearing about any problems your team has run into or any areas you think could be improved.
Hey @hitrefresh_22 , this is just off the top of my brain. (forgive me if some of them are already available, I’m not familiar with all the apps lol)
CSV exporting - OPR, DPR, CCWM are included along with notes you take on teams. Then you can export all the data into a CSV file for easier access
Sharing scouting info - idk if this is already a thing (pls tell me if it is), but maybe something like social media where people can upload photos of other teams (and their) robots, nb, strat, etc. Other teams can access these team profiles and make it easier to scout
Team organization tool (for nb too) - this could be a separate app, or just a feature, but a way to organize projects and easy Gantt charts, lists, and calendars, etc., that you can share with your team on the app and also add to nb
Overall these would really make teams’ lives easier! tysm for thinking about this!
Thanks for all the replies! This has been really helpful!
It seems like a lot of the main issues come down to speed and simplicity during tournaments (quick scouting input, fast team understanding, not juggling multiple tools), so I’m probably going to focus on a smaller, more focused tool instead of a big “everything app.” I’ll start prototyping something simple and see where it goes.
Quick question, what do people think about a very limited AI feature later on? I’m thinking something strictly post-match like summarizing scouting data, spotting trends (strengths/weaknesses/consistency), and cleaning up reports from already-entered data. No live match advice or in-comp strategy stuff.
Would that actually be useful, or would teams rather avoid AI entirely even in that kind of role?
I would love that feature. I use gemini all the time when researching topics or just looking for an answer to a specific question quickly. I hate AI companies, but AI used to speed up the learning process is very good just like the internet when it was made. Knowledge used to be hard to access for some because they couldn’t get hold of books. I think AI shouls be used but not to do the thinking for people. Sorry for the rant but I really wanted my thoughts out there. I still think this will be a useful addition.
