Hello everyone,
Over the past few months I’ve been developing an web app for VEX related stuff. I started developing this app because I wanted to make my team and I something of an everything app to have all the features we would use at a tournament all in one place. Over the last couple of months the app has come a far way it now has the following features, with much much more in development.
Live Match Data (Similar to VEX Via)
Match Scoring Calculator
Note Taking (Take notes on other teams or on a match.)
Game Manual
Field Viewer (So you can see starting position of everything. You can also draw on it to draw strategies.)
A few weeks ago a teammate said we should release the app so everyone could use it I originally thought no, the app didn’t seem good enough or original enough. However, after I continued to develop the app, the idea of sharing it continued to nag at me and eventually I agreed to it, so here I am. There is still a lot I want to add to the app, and there are some bugs that still need to be worked out, so I’m not releasing it just yet.
If this all is to much to read just read the following:
If I’m going to share this app with everyone, I want it to be something that people will use, not designed for the masses, but something for the few that want it, and for those few, I ask this: What do want? This app should be yours as much as it is mine it’s features and tools should reflect the wants and needs of its users. I want this to be your app. If you think you might want to use an app like this or you just have an idea you want to see a reality that would fit into a everything VEX app, let me know, I want to make your ideas a reality.
PS: I have no idea what it would be named any suggestions would be very helpful,
PPS: I’m pretty new to making UIs, and would love to here what y’all would like the app to look like I am currently exploring a very customizable design with 30+ color and style combinations.
i love that your making this app we have neaded this for a long time for the UI I suggest just having basic light and dark with blue or red secondary instead of orange also when will it be expected to go up?
No, not really most all of the hard lifting was done by me, although AI was definitely used as it has now become an industry standard. AI was referenced heavily while coding the CSS, and used to help debug, while most HTML and JS files were almost fully coded by me. I would also like to say vibecoding is not automatically bad it really just depends on how its used, but to answer your question, no I would not consider this to be vibecoded.
Thanks for the UI suggestions, they are appreciated. I hope it will be up by sometime in June. Realistically, I expect it to be late June to early July. (Early august at the absolute latest I don’t think that would be the case though)
This is a possibility, currently this app is written as a PWA, so that just means that you would go to the web address then you could choose to add it to your home screen and it would pretty much function as an app. However, I recently realized that putting an app of the play store isn’t very expensive, so I’m defenetley considering it.
This sounds awesome. I would definetely use this. The note taking feature sounds really cool but I think the thing I will use the most is the quick reference game manual and field for rules and strategy. I like the UI and the colors. Maybe make the gradient stand out a bit more and if you think it possible, make the colors shift in the background. A little bit much for something that still has bugs but just a thought. I hope you get this to work and release it soon.
I love this idea and im impressed that this is possible, if I were to use this app I would use it for notes. Gotta hand it to you I think the app might have a lot of great potential for anyone who uses it in the future
The name should be Vex Portal. And please make it for both Apple and Samsung products. It is a real pain to look at a team mates phone and have to learn a new setup really fast. But those are my suggestions.
I absolutely LOVE this idea. This would help so much with my work as a strategist, and I would love to see this in open source someday. Especially with the match calculator. I know V5RC Hub (a similar, open app that you seem to be slightly describing) has similar functionality, but I’d love to see it simplified or streamlined a bit more. All in all, you have a wonderful idea, and I really hope you can get this out to the masses in time for the important Override matches.
I really like this idea. I think that you should make a GitHub page and have people make comments or issues to share their ideas and have multiple contributors, then you can also share using things like social media easier instead of re-routing to a vex forum that can be filled up easily, but I am not sure what would work better.
Love the name idea! As @2775U-Hw said, it is a PWA so it can run on all systems with a browser, in addition to that I am considering adding it to the Google Play store, as of the apple appstore, I’m not sure yet it would be quite expensive, but I’ve not ruled it out.
Of course! And if you need it, I’d love to help forward development. I’ve been a software programmer for a number of years, so either that, or if you want just a guy to gather stuff from the GM for ya. Always here to support new VEX endeavors!
