Me and my team are attempting to put treads onto our axel bot, should we use the rubber treads plastic treads or a combination of the two?
Plus I need a visual understanding of what it would look like.

My friend got a robotics kit and tried using “tank treads” on his drivetrain, but they didn’t work very well on the vex field tiles because it hardly had any traction at all. I would recommend just using the normal wheels, or using something that will have rubber contacting the floor as to allow for more traction.
In the general game, usually you would want to run wheels, as they’re faster. When running tracks, your speed is very slow and isn’t very versatile.
The drivetrain is the most important part of your bot, so you may want to rethink your idea. Tracks are somewhat fairly bad.
Going with @76782AHighVoltage, tracks are not the best for the tiles on the VEX field and may not give you what you’re thinking of.
Wheels are superior in V5RC, as they can give the best speed and gearings that others use. They have a proper surface.
Also, when you’re using tracks, they may be able to break while in a match. That’s why most competitive teams use gears to use with their drivetrain for speeds and gearing.

I always have a discussion with roboteers about doing any kind of tread based drivetrains.
What kind of vehicles have treads? Tanks, bulldozers.
Were do you see them? In fields, in the mud.
Describe the coolest picture you have ever seen a tank moving? Oh the one where it was climbing up this pile of logs.
Super, now tell me often a VEX game has dirt, mud on the field and has logs for you to climb over? Does this game have that?
But I will confess that I did love the 1/2 track VEX EDR bot that my roboteers built.

Do any of the field elements in Over Under count as logs?
I would think so. I feel the beams in the middle of the field and the ones located elsewhere may be considered logs.
I think in the video @Foster posted, the guy was implying the tank treads would be able to get over the “logs” by using a trapezoidal shape, however, I do not feel Foster meant the beams in the Over Under field when he asked how often a VEX field has logs to climb. I think he was just listing some ways tank treads are used outside of vex, and not referencing the “logs” in the field in the video.
That depends on what your goal is. If you want to build something cool looking without much pushing power then plastic threads are fine.
If you want to build something with more pushing power then you would want rubber threads, but they could still be not as good as regular omnis, depending on the surface you are planning to be driveing on.
In general, for the competition use, threads don’t have enough friction to outcompete omnis on the foam fields and add too much friction to resist turning and wast motor power. Omnis with optionally locked omnis in the middle row are usually the best choice for the competition.
But if you are trying to build it just for fun here are a couple of classic legacy examples:
couldn’t you just gear the sprockets to be faster? besides, I like the idea of using treads on a competition robot purely for the memes.
