Test some out. A common one is 12:60 aka 1:5, geared down for torque. 12:84 / 1:7 slower but can lift heavier loads. useful if you have a heavy claw mech or one that jerks a lot.

I successfully built built a double reverse 4 bar with a 12 to 84 tooth gear ratio on green 200 RPM motors. It works great and I would recommend probably something around that ratio.

Well these speeds are a tad bit too slow in my opinion. WIth the vex v5 11w motors, as long as you band it well you can make the dr4b really fast. We are using 1:5 with green motors, banded quite a ton, and only thing on it is going to be a rotating claw made of poly.
