Our drivebase is really slow compared to other teams in our area. When we put in our wheels, we have to pull apart our gears a bit to fit them. how can we reduce friction on our drivebase?

Can we see some pictures of the drivetrain, some things I do is screw joints and bearings but I Can’t tell for sure without a picture
Using screw joints you can remove lots of friction. They really easy to make and you can find plenty of tutorials, Just search for them.
Also there is actually another active topic on this matter.
Are you using shoulder screws for the screw joints? If so was the outer c-channel connected with anything other than those 2 screws in the front and that 3-wide in the back? If there were more connection points, the problem was likely with the outer c-channel.
The Outer C-Chanel did cause friction, but another problem we have is that our motor can wiggle a lot when we connect them with shoulder screws (0.04 in.)
We also only connected the outer C-Channel using the two screws and the 1x3x1 C-Channel
I meant to ask if the screws for your screw joints were shoulder screws, not your motor screws.
I would recommend 2-3 full-length braces (including back 3-wide c-channel) for better structural integrity, and it would secure the outer c-channel better than it was, which may solve your issue.
