My team is looking for new Drivetrain options but we couldn’t find a great one. Our main problem when looking was to find an optimal design that’s gear ratio didn’t interfere when climbing the barrier for this year’s game (Over Under). I was hoping that you guys could help me answer this question. The drive needs 4 motors and 4 inch Omni-Wheels. I was also thinking whether you could use 4 Blue motors (600rpm) for a base without any risks?

To answer your specific question, 600 rpm on 4 inch is CRAZY fast. If you want to direct drive the motors to the wheels, I would recommend the green(200rpm) motors.
This is a great resource for seeing what speeds are out there and the gear orientations we used the 300rpm on 4inch and it climbs well with sleds
This is a great post that goes thru nearly all options, made with very informed opinions and experience
If you’re limited to 4 motors with 4" omnis, your best bet is probably 257rpm (84:36 geared down from 600rpm cartridge) or if you can build really light, then 300rpm (72:36 geared down from 600rpm cartridge). Do 4 wheel drive (2 wheels on each side) for optimal barrier traversal. Speed and torque are inversely proportional, when one goes up, the other goes down. 600 rpm cartridges will be fine to use as long as you gear it down.
Thank you for the replies. I was mainly concerned about the 600 rpm motors heating up versus the 200 rpm motors. I was also looking upon the catalog and found the 300 rpm looked nice to use. Apologies for the repetition though!
No problem, I’m just glad you found what you needed. Good luck with your robot!
