Hello VTOW , My name is Abdur-Rahman and I am the lead developer for a new application for VRC called Elapse. @Nomnomburger25 designed this. Below I would like to highlight some key features that Elapse has to offer as well as details on MoA alpha testing.
Tournament Mode
Tournament mode allows users to see important tournament info quickly. On the home screen, Elapse displays a user’s next match, highlighting their alliance colour, the teams in the game, the time and the field. Users are also able to see their future matches. The tournament tab allows users to view all their tournament details from the schedule, rankings, skills rankings and awards.
Live Timing
As a feature of tournament mode, this allows users to see the times of their matches according to the current delay. We all know how often tournament schedules get delayed and this feature aims to create a more realistic schedule on tournament day.
Team Stats
When you’re at a tournament, one of the most common occurrences is to check the stats of the teams you are competing with and against. Elapse allows users to quickly check the stats of other teams for a given game by simply tapping on a game and tapping on a team.
Explore Page
Elapse’s explore page allows users to search for what’s going on in the world of Vex Robotics. The explore page allows users to search up different teams to see their stats and check how other tournaments are going as well as both global skills and TrueSkill rankings.
Thoughtful UX
What will be most apparent when using Elapse is the attention to UI and UX (user interface and user experience). All pages and menus in Elapse are designed to be as light as possible, while still offering great detail. There are many features present and anticipated for Elapse, so be on the lookout for future updates.
Yes I’m happy to say that Elapse will be available for both Android and iOS at launch. This is because Elapse was built in flutter, a cross platform front end framework that allows it to be compiled to both iOS and android. That means that Elapse will have the same great user experience regardless of which device you own. It will also be available through the play store and app store at launch with alpha testing through Testflight and the play store’s beta testing features.
One thing I forgot to mention, if you are attending the Mall of America signature event, feel free to sign up for alpha testing with this google form https://forms.gle/D7Rz75dJ6gTcKkvRA
As I am not a team member, but adult coach of multiple teams, what are the features that allows a coach to follow multiple teams in organization? VEX Via does offer that.
The main thing that differentiates us is the overall user experience. We believe that Elapse lets users get information in a more inuitive and efficient manner than other applications. In addition to ease of use, features like tournament mode are intended to make the tournament experience easier for vex teams, as crucial information like a team’s rank, their next match, their full schedule are easily viewable from the home screen. In terms of raw information, Elapse currently does not pull any more insights than other applications simply because the main limitations lie with the APIs offered by either RobotEvents or VRC-Data-Analysis.
Currently, Elapse is suited towards single team use. Tournament mode is intended to give a user crucial information on their team, and their team only. However, Elapse makes the process of viewing other teams very simple in comparison to other applications. When clicking on a team, whether that’s from search, from a game, from rankings or wherever else, users can easily see a team’s tournament stats. Given this, Elapse will still be great at looking for other teams.
Thanks for the feedback, we are currently looking into being able to view multiple teams or quickly switch between multiple teams. It may not be available during launch but it is being planned.
It should support Vex U events, but we are currently focusing on VRC teams. We will ensure it will work with Vex U for v1, but not necessarily for the initial launch.
