Our season is over because we didn’t qualify for worlds(we didn’t even make it to finals because we were in 20th place, and one of our teams brought the 21st team up and past us). What should we do? I’m thinking of waiting for the game reveal and start researching and doing CAD because we won’t have robotics until early August.
You can start making notebook templates and maybe practice coding autons or building.
I think learning more coding would be good. Especially if you don’t have or understand PID. It will help any bot you might build in the future. But much more importantly, the logic behind the coding is a great thought exercise.
In a very similar situation to you(didn’t qualify for states) and i’m just preparing. Putting together a team, i’ve been working on a little website to help me notebook, I’m learning to code better, we might build a few drivetrains/other basic parts in advance to get started with building the main mechanics asap and have a functioning robot, arranging coming to the school over the summer to build, just stuff like that.
Yeah, I am planning to learn PID, but I might not be coder next season(even though I am good at it because some certain members on my team decided to switch coders, and in my opinion that isn’t a good idea)
Ermmmm… How determined is your team again? My team would probably destroy(my parents too) me if I asked to come to school over the summer.
Im doing vex air over the summer, anyone else?
I wold recommend not taking your bot apart until the next game is revealed b/c it might be salvageable next year.
It may not be as much fine as building or driving a bot, but understanding the judging process would likely be a useful skill to possess regardless of the season’s game.

I already understand the judging process.
Yeah so out of the 5 of us(counting me) 2 all but laughed at me when I asked them, one said he might be able to, and the rest of us(2) will(if the school allows it)
Coach here: Really look at your notebook and commit to writing in it EVERY meeting- Notebooks are the gateway to awards. Looking autonomous coding and how to brush up on skills for next season.
My 5th grade team is planning on doing some “weird builds”. They don’t want to stop having robot club until the new game, so trying out some builds that would never be competition ready will be fun for them (and they will be learning how different mechanisms work in the process.)
And we also have a watch party planned for IQ championships.
Yeah I agree with max that the only thing that you really can do is prepare for the next one
You should lowk do ur auton because our auton really sucked during this season.
I can’t do auton because we won’t have robotics until early August. All I can do is learn PID.
You can do vex vr! .
I can agree, I remember that I used a full volume robot ( I think it was a similar robot to the Ben lipper 91pts - full volume) in rapid relay comps. Only a few mods required
Our team disassembled down to the chassis, Becuase we’ll always need a chassis… That is, unless you are in Vex Air, but we are not.
Practice building. If you plan on staying in iq, then I can’t help much, but if you are planning to move up to v5, which I personally recommend, then practice building in v5. You learn a lot by just trying building, then getting feedback and applying to your next bot. By just applying feedback and asking people who are better than me, I managed to go from one of the goofiest and slowest bots in the organization to building a robot that got me to state semifinals. If you do the learning off what you should and shouldn’t do off season, that would really boost your team. TLDR: if you want to succeed next year, practice building and getting feedback so each iteration is better, and you learn valuable build quality knowledge off season
