I was wondering why there had been no recent uploads from your channel.
Iāve edited 2 posts for language.
@LEER How did you do at nationals? Results still havenāt been uploaded to RobotEvents.
Their Wall finished quite low, and was a 3rd pick for their A team in the 8th alliance. It failed to deploy a few times and just blocked their partners off as a resultā¦
They were knocked out by #1 seed (captained by their D team).
#2 seed (Consisting of 3117, 3116C and 5194E) then beat #1 seed (Consisting off 46644D, 4941A and 3116B) in the final
Just curious, you ever try getting your partner to load everything into your wall when the thing is down and try to just collect everything on the wall until the last second then just flip it over?
Do you mean state competition or state competition finals? The amount of people Iāve proven wrong about pushbots is hilarious.
Anyways, that wallbot, regardless of how well it performs in a match, is definitely one of the most unique designs that Iāve seen this year. Some video of it would be greatly appreciated, I would love to see that thing in action.
I donāt know about that. The best pushbots are good at best, but definitely not great. It doesnāt seem viable to me right now.
The wall seeded low due to it failing to deploy several times because we forgot to remove blocks that had to be added to help collapse the wall as the locks that hold it in the size limit only hold for about 3" between each section before the wall expands. The wall was picked by our second team a claw which was the 8th team captain. The wall won the innovate award.
Our first team was top seed and lost the finals due to us and our partner falling over in two matches in a row. Our first team also won skills, amaze and excellence.
We have several videos of the wall during the design and build (which all started about 3 weeks ago) and some videos of it in action in matches and against our own robots (claws, side rollers and pushbots). I will release the videos soon when I have time to put them on youtube.
I am fairly sure we did deploy when we blocked you off in the match we partnered with you lolā¦
lol true, but you didnāt deploy straight away, which probably caused the blocking. I wasnāt referring specifically to that though. I heard of the same thing happening to other teams too.
You all did great at Nationals. Well played in the finals, you were unlucky not to win
Your team performed very well throughout the competition and with your excellent robot design⦠you deserved to win. 3117 and 5194E also performed very well.
Also congrats on the think award I knew how much you wanted it lol (No idea how we got the amaze award the criteria says you have to have a successful auton and our auton only successfully made the robot fall over every match after getting cube over in 2-3 seconds).
Top work on the Wallbot, I think that Twitter picture was probably mine. It was sooooo nearly there, just couldnāt nail these deploy reliability issues. So glad someone had a good bash at making one though, itās such a hard thing to do.
The UK results are in and the walbot did not do so well. They were 2-11 in qualifying and ranked 39 out of 40. They did get selected by a sister team and were eliminated in the first round of eliminations.
Over the course of the tournament their alliances averaged giving up over 38 points per game and their alliances averaged scoring less than 13 points per game.
As much as I wanted this design to work, it just did not. I think this may be the best walbot design this year, but this game is simply not conducive to a walbot design.
Umm, they already said what happened.
I donāt think it makes sense to say that the wallbot concept canāt do well in starstruck just because this one didnāt deploy reliably. Executing wallbots is really really hard. But that doesnāt support the argument that they are not capable of being effective in starstruck
Very cool. Like I said, I was really hoping it would do well, but results speak for themselves. Good effort, though. I am guessing you all learned a lot with this. That is more important than winning a game.
You canāt win a world championship with a wall botā¦well except in 2012 when the Robosavages did just that with 2Wā¦
To be successful a defensive robot must be very well build, deployment must work every time and the wall must basically stop all opposing bots or you are playing 2 vs 1, and we know how that often works out.
That said, I do admire teams that push themselves to the limits, in any designā¦
Maybe we will get to see some good video of it somewhere in a match? Some of the expansion setup s in wall bots are to be greatly admired.
Itās not just 2W that could have won with a wall bot.

My brother and his team built this robot. It probably could have won Worlds, but unfortunately its partners (two of the VERY BEST teams in the world) tipped and had disconnection issues in the quarterfinals matches that 127C didnāt play in. As you can tell, the robot was very effective, its partners just had extremely bad luck at an extremely bad time. That was sad to watch (the other matches, not this one).
Nice!
Obviously at worlds pushbots wonāt do very good. These are the best teams in the world, which all seem to have high capacity clawbots of some form. However, for the season so far, pushbots, if well built and with sufficient power, did pretty wellcompared to other years, mainly because the actual game was designed to allow pushbots to work, perhaps a little better than they had hoped. Nevertheless, I still say that a pushbot is an easy bot to make (relative to a clawbot) and they did pretty well this year (not to brag, but 8th place at NorCal states isnāt an easy thing to do).
As with wallbots, I think they do have potential to be really good, but it will take a lot more R&D to make a truly great wallbot. However, this is probably the best one this year, and I respect you for that. Itās good that some teams such as them donāt follow design convergence just to win, that tey build something completely different just for the fun of it and to actually learn something. imo youāll probably learn more building a wallbot from scratch than following tips and help on the forums on how to build a typical clawbot.
@blatwell I was considering using PROS, but I heard that it crashes a lot and has a tendency to corrupt your code.
