How to fit 4 inch omni and gear in 3 holes

yes… That’s what happens when they’re both constrained to the same axis

wait do you mean press another gear against the side of the wheel to make the wheel turn?
because this would not be a good idea.

If I’m understanding correctly he’s saying to do this but without an insert in the sprocket (which would be no different than if it did have an insert because it’s still constrained to the same axis because of the gear’s insert)

and

makes me think that @9935E means actually using the wheel as a gear.

How would that work?

it wouldn’t, you would not want to do this.

It works and if you fine tuned it this could be a viable option for a drivetrain. I had no slipage if I kept the wheel straight so I guess it would work

Have you tried turning with a drive like that? I’d assume that it wouldn’t do well

Stuff to add cut the flap holders and flaps to be skinnier and mess around with the apacing and size of sprocket

ok that is not a good idea on so many levels.

  • the wheel will slip under loads
  • you’ll have a ton of friction losses and inconsistent power transfer
  • just no

I would love to see someone fine tune this so it can go 200rpm

I agree

But you could have a 1 hole drive if you made it better with the right wheels

Can you remind me why you can’t do more than 3 holes?

Vex forum etiquette does not allow me to express how horrible of an idea this is

It can give you more room for other systems like the snail and also you can have a smaller profile making you go spped and nimble

no you couldn’t no wheels that thin even exist.
please nobody actually try this, it is a very bad idea. a legged robot would probably be more efficient.

Maybe cut an omni wheels in half so you can also turn better

That doesn’t make sense

Also you could shave the sides of a wheel down to the bare frame making it possible to do 1 hole
