Ideas for High Stakes?

I knew I saw this somewhere…

“displacement during autonomous is fatal”, so instead of vision, or an inertial sensor, or odometry, you built this…

  1. This was a while ago, back in the cortex era, so they didn’t have as much sensors (from what I know)
  2. Arguably, programming an actuator to go down is a lot easier than programming using a pid &/or odometey
  3. This is not mine

I know I hate how low points the hang is because grant fox said he wanted more high risked wich is what happened but it’s not gonna be done because if you only get 3,6,or 12 points.

We have a few thoughts such as a flex wheel wall that sucks it up or a claw so it has power to push ring on base and some others we have already started building prototypes and the robot already.

Keep in mind that the whole game is low-scoring, and 3, 6, or 12 points could make or break a game.

Yeah I was thinking 6 wheel just for the sake of traction. It will be tight but I will be able to do it. Thinking about doing omni-traction-omni order to help keep the center point of the turn as close to the center of the bot as possible so I don’t have to worry about the front or back end swinging way around and hitting a wall or the ladder as much.

me and my partner are thinking about creating a robot that has two “claws” (imagine an [ without the bottom line) on the top that move to climb the latter. we’re also going to have a claw that can move right to left, up and down, and can twist. not sure how we’re going to do that though. shes the builder, not me.
ive also thought of involving a lift of some kind but not sure.

12 points is ~ 1/7th of the max points.

For comparison, that is about 50 points in an equivalent over under maximum score.

As for my thoughts, I don’t think the high stake will ever be used until the mid-season, unless a team finds some way to shoot onto it. Interesting though how there will be 5 mogos, meaning that if each bot has 1, there is still 1 floating around the field (so maybe goal rush is less necessary?)

So, for early season, we’re probably going to shoot for a 7 motor 55-60 in/sec drive (I always like speed over torque), 2 5.5w intake/scorer, 1 pneumatic actuator mogo clamp, 4 actuator hang, and maybe a 1 actuator pooper.
Descoring though, we’ll have to see once we purchase our field…

I think that is actually a grate idea because it could have helped my team so much if we had something like this on our bot to be kept from getting pushed around when we were launching trials in the over under session.

12 points is not a lot if you end up loosing your points in the corner while climbing. There should be an end game protection on corners for you to climb

Why such a crazy drivetrain? 7 motor drive is a lot for a game like this (imo).

That’s true, but it would also be unfair for teams that didn’t develop any climbing strats. As an example, our team’s plan is to not climb at all and might mess with the corners.

I’m planning on a quick passive bottom tier climb assuming they keep the rules for 3 free points

It honestly makes a lot of sense, there will likely be lots of contact for mobile goal possession or putting them in corners. 7 motor drives allows for a robot to be faster for equal amounts of power than a 6 motor drive. This speed will allow a robot to complete more tasks within a short amount of time. Also, you it is very much possible to make a single motor intake, you could use pistons for a mogoal mechanism and low hang. Although, this may prevent scoring onto the alliance or wall stakes

Yeah. We are gonna do some polycarb hooks that get actuated up so that I can drive under the ladder one way and hang if I drive the other way.

Uhhhh 55-60 in/sec is not that fast. If you want something fast I’d go with something more like 480 2.75 or 343 on 4 inch

I’m using a kiwi drive I made in the offseason of this year’s challenge. It’s tiny (about 13in across) and stupidly fast (direct drive blue motors+ 2.75in wheels). I’m planning on using a claw with a wrist that should allow for extremely quick intaking, scoring, and descoring. it’ll also use a climbing mechanism that will probably get to tier 3 in about 10 seconds, and score the high stake. hopefully, I be able to descore the top 2 donuts on the stakes, and rescore it with 2 of mine (making it worth more points for me than my opponent). in endgame im planning on having the other robot on my team to play defense while I climb. anyone have insights on this strategy?

And yes, before anyone asks, I have verified that everything should fit on the drivetrain.

Interesting takes!

I try to keep my plans out of discussions like this because things change so quickly at this point of the season. But I’ll offer up my opinions this once.

That’s the half x-drive, right? What made you choose this over tank drive?

Interesting. Pneumatic or motorized?

But 1 robot can only hold 1 mogo. My thought is holding a mogo while I elevate, then dropping it at the last second so it will count for points. Yeah, it won’t be in a + corner, but at least it won’t be in a -.

Absolutely. However, think about if two brothers are fighting over a toy. One of the gets it, then curls up in a ball in the corner. Even if the other brother is stronger, it will take so much more force to remove the brother from the corner and then steal the toy. The corners will be about who gets there first.

Yeah me too. Easy 3 points without risking your mogos.

Here is something that hasn’t really been brought up. The wall stakes are a great way to get some free rings scored without having to worry about them in endgame. Yeah they can be descored, but you can quickly put the rings on.

Great takes! Keep up the strategizing!
