That the fields are easier to build, maintain and make repairs to (the platforms have come lose /fallen apart at least 10 times this year)
Kinda a pipe dream here, but make live-streaming mandatory for all qualifying events (qualifying for regionals or worlds). Not only would that improve scouting immensely, but would also allow EEMS to better diagnose any voiced event concerns and would allow newer EPs to see how veteran events are run.
Now with this I would suggest the creation of a subsection on robotevents where the links would have to be posted so that people could pop in and watch at any thine they want without having to scour YouTube, Twitch, or Vimeo for the livestream links.
Now although FRC already sort of has this, I know that for VRC this would be next to impossible to do, as many smaller events just do not have the capacity nor funding to do so. Perhaps a set of rentable equipment could be set up so that less-endowed event partners could live-stream their event.

The issue that many of us face is we are doing events in school district buildings. Getting access to their network and then getting a stream out through the firewall is so many hoops to leap through. I do a hot spot to get scores out , but multiple video streams (MS/HS tournament is in the same place) doesnāt work.
But it would be nice!
Obligatory tie to the orginal post. I wish there was an adaptor to take the VEX (VEXIQ or V5) motors and make them driveable by Raspberry Pi / other micro-controllers (Adafruit Feather). That was one of the best features of the Cortex is those motors were simple PWM. The VEX parts make mocking up / building mechanical super easy. Itās one reason I kept a stack of them.

I would make the v5 cables actually work after a few weeks.
I just think its stupid that the V5 Distance sensor canāt detect how far away something is, IDK Iām new to sensors and the likes of that

Are you saying a distance sensor doesnāt detect distance? What else would it measure?
The motor limit and the limit of how big your robot can be
how big do you want it/ how many motors should there be? (too big and the field would need to be bigger, too many motors and skills will be too easy)
VEX-U, with their unlimited use of motors, has shown this to be not quite true⦠but I would agree that a couple extra motors (perhaps the new half-power ones) for VRC, and for-sure a couple more for IQ, would lead to some new innovation.
If I could change one thing, Iād add VIQU.
Both of those would make VEX quite a bit less financially friendly to a lot of people.
Honestly I feel like it would be a cool idea to make recording mandatory. So if live streaming is an option then streaming would be the option but if network isnāt available then there must be footage to upload after the tournament. This will combat the ānetworkā situation when network isnāt available. That will also allow replays in case of a questionable call (would be even cooler for software that allows NFL-like replays on the screens)
Yeah, that would be a happy medium if events do not have the bandwidth or equipment to live-stream. If that is a requirement if the event cannot be live-streamed, I would probably expect there to be some rules set in place for how long after the event the EPs have until they need to post the matches (how much leeway they have until the posting deadline).
You could just require recordings of elim matches, not necessary for quals in my opinion. Would take a LOT of stress off of EPs. To record an entire tournament is a lot of data and investment, you have to set something up to last the entire day. Recording just elims could be done fairly easily, depending on tournament size you could possibly just pull out a phone and video.

Totally agree, recordings are really nice to have for showing off and for others to scout. Win-win.
