I'm getting ready for my first competition what should I expect what should I do?

I have 1 week till my first competition what should I expect and what should I do?

Do you have any sister teams that have been to a competition? The people running the competition will tell you what to do. Bring lots of water and something to eat and snack on. Make sure you have extra parts that might fail on the robot and an extra motor.

My sister team has ruined a whole brain because of static. I recommend getting static spray and spraying it on the drivetrain if you have ever had any problems. Another thing that helps for overheating is electronic spray (the ones in a condensed metal can) if you turn it upside down and spray is at motors, it cools them down really fast. Make sure you register as soon as possible. Run skills when you have a big gap in your qualifiers and if your motors are cool and you if arent doing anything else, go to the practice field or look over your robot or code one last time. At a vex competition, you should always be doing something. And like 77240G-SC said, bring LOTS OF WATER, SNACKS, AND EXTRA PARTS. its super important to stay fueled up the whole comp. Make sure you charge everything the night before the comp and when you register, immediately plug everything in. bring an extra brain if you can. bring a computer.

if you have all that, you should be just fine.

Make sure you know the rulebook especially this year since the game has a lot of things to know

Also I recommend putting a couple drops of vex legal lubricant in each gearbox to make sure they’re running smoothly before the competition

I would suggest making a checklist of everything that should be checked on the robot before every match. A checklist of everything you may need to take. Also, do skills as soon as possible the sooner you’re done with it less work you need to focus on later.

You should make sure you have skills practice. If it’s your first competition I don’t think you’d win the award, but skills award is very easy to get if you put the effort into it. We have a tournament in a week, if I can just finish my code then I can get a solid 560 in skills total which is number one in my state by 80 points. I mean, it’s literally the best thing to do. If you have no good auton, I’d formulate as many strategies as you can beforehand about how to win in matches, as you can win matches without a good robot (we were in first/43 for four rounds even though we had a worse robot) if you just know what to do against all kinds of robots.

Also, don’t pick your sister team just because. Pick the team that you connected best with in one of your matches is my advice.

Bring extra EVERYTHING!!! Even if you don’t need it all other teams might need something, they tend to like you if you can help them.

Yes, especially since their programming skills run can and most likely will get better.

Would be nice if they didn’t. Luckily my code is almost working.
