My last straw for VEX

I figured as much, that’s exactly what my FTC team does (the static issue is WAY WORSE for FTC) and it seems to work well enough. The real question is which brand is the best? Perhaps Tide or Bounce?

Yeah i mean for small towns like where i am we dont get lot of sponsors with lot of money. Meanwhile teams closer to the capital r rich so that is a disadvantage too. They should have like divisions

Am I seeing things or was my post deleted? Anyway, a website showed that snuggle dryer sheets were said to have the best performance for eliminating static.

@Ryan_26982E They might have flagged for either off topic or something else. They did that to me too before cause i said i was tired of how vex cant really do anything bout the refs being biased. I was flagged for being “inappropriate” for that post

I thought the same thing at one point. I saw other teams frying ports everyday, but I didn’t have any problems. And then, at The Wave at WPI they did not spray the practice field with anti-static spray (even though they said they would) and in one day we lost 4 ports and 2 motors. After that we replaced our v5 brain and did everything in our power to reduce the risk of static. We shortened wires, checked wires for damage, grounded the brain using all four brass inserts on the back, rubbed staticide on our wheels, made sure all parts of the robot were connected via metal on metal connections in some way to reduce static. We even stripped wires and attached one end to the chassis and the other lightly brushing on the ground, in hopes this would disperse the buildup of static into the ground. Unfortunately this did not help, and we lost another port and a motor. And yesterday, while practicing on a field which had been sprayed, we lost two ports at the same time. This is clearly an issue with the product, though it does seem that some units are more prone to breaking than others.

VEX = for profit company that manufactures and sells equipment
RECF = non-profit company that facilitates tournaments

VEX has nothing to do with how referees rule at tournaments.

Oh. Well. Now i know. I thought it was all the same thing. Mb

Not always. It helps, but there isn’t a single fix-all solution (at least that I’ve been able to find). My bot is particularly susceptible to static, and I’ve lost a lot of matches because of it. (Thankfully only minimal elimination matches, but a lot of the quals wherein I suffered were important matches.)

Do we know if there’s a correlation between omnis building up more static than other wheels? That’s one of the last things I can think of.

and RECF only runs one events - Worlds.

EPs run the rest and recruit volunteers, including Referees. If you have candidates to volunteer at events, be sure to contact your local EPs.

Yes, that’s why I used the word “facilitate” because they are not really in the business of running tournaments. However, they facilitate them by establishing and maintaining the rules, creating RobotEvents, helping EPs, providing RSMs, providing training, etc.

I was thinking that you could wrap parts of the robot around the brain with dryer sheets to prevent static and it would be legal because it’s a non functional decoration.

Ok i done some research to show outrageous prices

Static prevention is a function.

shouldn’t need to be

I mean almost 45 bucks for sizing tool i can make one ez

8 bucks for 1 cube. That is ludicrous

44 dollars is an absolute RIPOFF

I also believe its not free shipping. So more like 60

I understand that vex has stupidly high prices and their shipping is massive. For the cable connectors which are ~3 dollars, they cost 11 dollars to ship to the west coast. This is why I recommend buying from resellers like idesignsol and robotmesh.
