New Note for R9a - Prohibiting Coloring of Parts in China

Just curious, why is this prohibited? And are there intentions of extending this to other regions?

I have worked with some people involved in chinese anodizing shops, and they straight up have a purchase option of buying “real” vex parts anodized or “fake” vex parts anodized. The fake ones are more expensive and advertized to be lighter.

this might be completley wrong so take this with a humongouse grain of salt but i heard multiple rumors that,

A. the coloring of the metal was getting completley out of hand and being done by like proffesional companies (which if you saw some of the robots its pretty insane all of the chrome plating and coloring some of the bots had)

B. teams were using the painting and coloring of parts to hide the fact that they were using non vex c-channel.

You can always take a “real” vex part and run it through CNC grinder to make it lighter.

How are they going to prohibit that if it falls under legal modification methods?

Ngl, I’d like to experience the world of bursting colors :rainbow: and leave GDC forbiddioneers behind in the boring flat 2D world of black and white :white_flag: :black_flag:.

Is VEX also claiming that Taiwan and other offshore islands like Kinmen are part of China?

I feel like quite a few people could get offended here (but of course, I’m not Taiwanese, so I have no proof).

The recognition of Taiwan as a disconnected entity from China has always been an issue with Vex, however I believe Taiwan is not part of mainland China even by the Chinese government’s claim, unless they have a really huge sandbar nobody noticed.

I just wanted to ask to confirm, is there even a slim possibility that this ban may extend to other regions or even worldwide? Just wanted to check before i rebuild and spraypaint.

Only the GDC knows. I’d like to see the colors continue, they look awesome on VIQ bots.

Slim is pretty subjective. I would restate - there is a non-zero probability that this is adopted wider depending on what problem RECF/GDC/VEX is trying to solve. As Foster noted, only the GDC can change the rules in the Game Manual.
