With Override’s new game manual coming out at MS Worlds today, I think the rules banning custom painted, anodized, or spray painted parts is completely uncalled for from everyone. Unlike normal Vex activities, this rule doesn’t even allow them to profit more, which is seen in other changes such as no custom plates. Why did Vex do this?
Rule prohibits anodizing, painting, or dyeing VEX parts to ensure fair competition and sensor reliability. The manual highlights that because Override relies heavily on AI Vision and Optical Sensors, custom colors could unfairly interfere with an opponent’s sensors or mimic Field Elements and Scoring Objects.
Regarding your point on profit, custom license plates are actually still permitted under rule , provided they follow the specific size and legibility requirements.

I was already warned about ai generated posts. I stopped when I was warned.
The main problem is coloring the fake plate to make it red or blue with a vex-legal component. Because of this, any custom plate is illeagal. You can still have custom decals on the normal license plates, but not custom plates.
I guess I’m going to have to site my sources every post.
You do have a point here, I didn’t think about how you would have to recolor parts to make custom license plates, I do think that this will need to be clarified as an exception to the no coloring parts rule, but I still think you can have custom license plates by just putting a big sticker on a plate or something.

The sensor push from the GDC is a terrible look on them which paints the picture as they are pro ai as the ai vision sensors are seeming to be shoved down the required to get into states.
This is a somewhat poor excuse as things like license plates and gears (being red and blue) could also have a direct affect on sensor performance. I personally used the AI vision sensor in high stakes programming an autonomous routine and there was a tendency it would pick up license plates and gears of other robots as rings when in color detection mode. Also if the user chooses to use april tags, that requires a different mode on the AI vision sensor (AI classifications) to be used instead of its enhanced color detection feature and it that case it is a vex problem the sensor may or may not be able to handle seeing colored robots. also in that vain the AI vision sensor has a slow update speed due to hardware limitations and will not be used competitively anyway since odometry and distance sensor resets provide much more accuracy, precision and speed on existing systems and software. Also since the goals are stationary detecting movement of goals is not necessary with an AI vision sensor. Also keep in mind the april tags are the same on each side which makes them irrelevant to global positioning tracking whereas people would much rather use the GPS sensor or any of the technologies listed before.
I know this isn’t related to the metal portion, but r23f says pneumatics need to show the vex logo, but mine wore off. Would this mean I have to get a new one from Vex?

I was wondering the same thing, I currently have my tanks and pistons wrapped with blac vinyl wrap, and I tried to take it off and now the vex wrap is coming off with it.
Are the robosource color-coded screws considered legal? We didn’t paint them ourselves, they came pre-painted, so would they be safe under R22?
My gut is yes, BUT the Official Q&A is to ask when opened. I imaging there will be a lot of questions surrounding R22.
