Noob here

Forenote: Sorry for the excessively long post.

I don’t know what Odometry is either, so let’s search that up!

Odometry is the use of data from motion sensors to estimate change in position over time.

Or even better, on VexForum!

Lesson

Try to research what you can, and ask what you need afterward. Thanks!

  • Is it just used for auton?

It can be used for driver and not just auton, but usually it is only used for autonomous.

  • How is it programmed?

I believe you use an Inertial Sensor to measure the X, Y, Z, and Rotation.

  • What are odometry pods?

They are devices used to measure and track robot movement. Usually, they use Wheel Encoders, Accelerometers, Gyroscopes, or more.

  • What’s the point of polycarbonate surrounding/wrapping their drivetrain channels?

Last year, this was used for wings in Over-Under. It might also be used for protecting the drivetrain, decoration, etc.

  • Does it help with stability, defense, overcoming obstacles, aesthetics, etc?

Usually not Stability. Sometimes for defense, but rarely. I don’t think there are any obstacles to overcome in High Stakes. Aesthetics? A ton.

  • How do I make my own?

Read the Game-Manual too. On Rule <R19>:

Legal plastic types include polycarbonate (Lexan), acetal monopolymer (Delrin), acetal copolymer (Acetron GP), POM (acetal), ABS, PEEK, PET, HDPE, LDPE, Nylon (all grades), Polypropylene, and FEP.

Plastic may be mechanically altered by cutting, drilling, bending, etc. It cannot be chemically treated, melted, or cast. Heating polycarbonate to aid in bending is acceptable.

  • What’s the difference between 1/16 and 1/32 poly sheets?

That’s the thickness of the sheet.

  • Which one do people use more and for what?

I’m not sure. Let’s do a poll!

  • Lexan/Polycarbonate
  • Delrin/Acetal Monopolymer
  • Acetron GP/Acetal Copolymer
  • Acetal/POM
  • Nylon
  • Polypropylene
  • Other (FEP, ABS, PEEK, PET, HDPE, LDPE)
0 voters
  • Are the sleds made of poly too?

My team didn’t use poly sleds, but many did.

  • Should they be used this year in High Stakes?

Sleds were from last year to go to the other side of the field on Over Under. You probably won’t see them this year.

Hope this helps!
