Question about the intake -
Our team is doing an intake without using hoppers but instead having the conveyer deliver the disks to the flywheel
Except we have encountered a problem of the disks falling off the edge as it is not stopped in time enough
We have also tried turning the flywheel on while picking the disks up but it seems t shoot off before we drive up to the high goals
We don’t have any special parts like pneumatics availble and was wondering if this can be solved with normal parts?

I’m not sure from this description if you’re using an indexer, but it sounds like you’re not. Our team’s current indexer is powered by a motor, using a slip gear and rubber bands to hit the disc into the flywheel. If you have a motor to spare, you could lengthen the distance between the end of your intake and add a similar design of indexer to cover the gap. This essentially creates a simple hopper.

If you don’t want any interface between the intake and flywheel, I would set up sensors to stop the intake before the disc quite reaches the flywheel and then allows you to move it forward a little when you want. I’m not sure if this helps, but without pictures or more specifics, it’s what I’ve got off the top of my head.

have you ever looked into an alternative for your indexer ( this method replaces your motor) you should really look into adding a pneumatic indexer therefore you have an extra motor you can use as you please

I am well aware of the advantages a pneumatic indexer present, but we are concerned about using too much air on our indexer to use pnematics for places where they might be more valuable.

What place do you consider pneumatics more valuable? On our robot that is the indexer. Also with a regulator you can use only one air reservoir on this. Then use the other on the other thing(s) you need pneumatics for (likely expansion).

Got a question, how do you mount intakes?
Like what pieces do you use for it
Since they are slanted, the holes don’t line up

depends on how you want to do it. How are you going about it?

Based on your question, I’m assuming you don’t want to just drill new holes that will line up. So if you take a look on the Vex robotics catalog page, under structure, you will find a variety of gussets including ā€œpivot gussetsā€ (near the end of the page, in the gusset pack) which have slots in them allowing you to make adjustable angles in your design.

Once you have the angle set correctly, you can usually find a place to attach a 1x bar or 1x1 angle, as a reinforcing strut, where a couple holes will line up.
