Sooo, SPIN UP META IS...? 😮

What is the best expansion for endgame. I’m thinking of having wrapped rope or a chain on a spindal, unraveling it and driving away. The problem is as mentioned by many others in this tread, the other team could easily block the robot.

It’s twice as difficult to block two endgame mechanisms…

I would suggest looking at 4082B’s endgame. I really like the simplicity and reliability of it.

Yes. Take a look at Spin Up matches and reveals on youtube to see what other teams have done.

Possibly, its best if you test out different types of intake mechanisms and documenting it in your team’s engineering notebook. Note that just because a certain mechanism works for one team does not necessarily mean it will work for your team.

Can you build a string catapult without using any pneumatics or shaved gears?

Yes, so the concept of a string cannon is to store elastic potential energy in a secure mechanism during the first 1:50 of the match.

At the end, you would need to release this elastic energy so it could launch a payload. Think about some possible methods to release it!

Without the convenience of pneumatics, one possible solution would to use a ratchet from a motor on another subsystem (say intake) to connect it to a release mechanism. This could be ranging from a trapdoor to a winch and pulley pulling out a pin, releasing the catapult.

These are only a few solutions that could be implemented without pneumatics or a slip gear, but be creative! The possibilities are endless.

Feed the string into a flywheel (the main flywheel if you are doing one)

if you feed the string into the flywheel, wouldn’t it get in the way of the disks?

l have an idea about using the latex tubing and elastic bands and attaching it to one of the screws at the front of a c-channel. But in order to release the catapult, the tubing needs to slip off the screws. Can it be achieved with a motor and how?

What I meant is to have it go into the flywheel mechanism after you are done making your last shots.

Example

Having the string be dropped from above onto the flywheel indexer (one end of the string still attached to the robot).

A way to let it go is to have the screws be attached to a gear in a way that when the wheel spins, the screws spin with it.

The screws are supposed to act as a hook for the latex tubing (look at drawing in my previous post)

I think benn gave you some pretty good ideas. Without pneumatics or free motors, a ratchet seems like your best option. Lots of examples on youtube.

Just reread the horizontal expansion section, there isn’t anything on string. (meaning it isn’t explicitly stated that it’s illegal, but it also doesn’t say it is legal)
