I was thinking something like a large tower with a spiral sloped ramp that you have to push balls to the top of. The tower could be on a large baring which is what other people were talking about. So if this were real then you could have a break for the robot, and then have a motor which spins the tower while an arm guides the ball up the ramp.
Tipping point did not have that much tipping. Perhaps revolving items will not be such a big part of the game as most people think.
My prediction would be this:
One of the scoring methods is a coin/wheel that robots can spin. Spinning the wheel toggles it between blue and red, giving point to the corresponding team at the end of the match. This wheel is secondary scoring method (like rings in tipping point). I think something like this was present in an FRC game.
Also, vex has not done a shooting game in some time, perhaps they will bring back projectiles.
Another thing to keep in mind is the meaning of “spin up”. From a 30-second scan of this source, “spin up” is a rotatory acceleration.
theory (this is a mash of my own theory and posts) A oil drum basin thing on each side that you spin and shoot balls into. also, parking will be on a merry-go-round in the center, where robots will have to fight for a spot like turning point. I do think we will have a shooting game like I said. the oil basin thing may be in the middle. kinda like starstruck. they have not made a center divide game in a while, so this may happen. In the teaser it showed towers before the name reveal, this may just be the whole new city thing, but there might be towers that spin or having elevated basins? could be.
I agree with the 3 towers 2 small and 1 large, and I think that there will be some kind of shooting involved. I’m not so sure about a spinning game element, but that would definitely be something new. Possibly it’s a toggle at the top of a tower to allow you to score balls in polycarbonate side plates kind of like toss up with the hexagon balls going in those polycarbonate chutes but only flat and wider on the side of the tower. So each tower can be “owned” if toggled and then that allows you to shoot balls in the tower for your alliance. With the high likelihood of 3 low cost polycarbonate towers with a fairly reasonable toggle, they would have to be fairly large. I think they will either divide the field in two and create a barrier in between alliances or have spinning gates allowing robots to cross in certain locations. My prediction is that vex wants a year of “hold-out” autonomous programs like in turning point where teams would wait to score, but they also would want another game element and another skill involved. So they will probably divide the field in two save two slots at the edge of the field and have a high hang in-between towers. They might also have throwing elements to go back and forth across the high-hang bars. That might be too much tho, so it may just be toggling gates on towers in order to throw things and also having a place to score balls? Not quite sure.
TLDR: Shooting to toggle gates on towers to score balls or throw game elements across, a high hang in-between towers, loading game elements using a throwing device into some apparatus?
Assuming this is a teaser for the new game and not a bunch of little elements shoved under a tarp or an old game, it looks like the element might be pretty big.
The first picture is from turning point (many things point to that). But in the 2nd picture being a 2018 drive team means that it was the 17-18 competition In The Zone.
Additionally, the TP worlds picture should have nothing to do with Spin Up. On a 3 year cycle, they would only have up to Tipping Point prepared at that time, with no live implementation for Spin Up.
Also Turning Point was the most recent In-Person World Championship event, so VEX probably used that footage as it would be the closest to what they are planning for Worlds this season.
I don’t know if this has to do with anything, but why would they have the incoming high-schoolers do two ball games in a row? Wouldn’t that get boring? Because they are doing catapults and flywheels right now, and it would just be a repeat of the IQ game in a sense. I think that would be inconvenient for them. Especially because they are looking for a different robot design and a new challenge.
