correct. the ability to shoot and move rather fast is far too important and a turret allows for all of that. in my opinion every tenth and even hundredth of a second counts but that is from someone that watches Formula 1. Odometry is really important for this but like you said its best to have a second driver and maybe just as a fail safe if you decide to use vision instead. designs like from FTC which have no turrets are too slow compared to a turret. and i belive its only 40 points for all the rollers.

Not sure that that would solve the cycle rate problem. I have a design that I donāt want to give away, but I will say that position states are a key in every complex mechanism.
The only reason Iām not certain on a second driver, is that currently Iām a 2 person team (not even an official team yet lol, need the money to sign up on robotevents) and not sure if Iāll be able to find more teammates, so when it comes to skills, Iāll need someone to help me do the match loads.
I think one idea I had is to have the vision sensor assisting, but not doing it all, in case of some issues like a lot of red/blue in the background. Like if the vision sensor sees the high goal, it puts something on the brain screen as a way to indicate that itās pointing in the right general area.
Odometry will still be important for changing flywheel speeds based on distance away from the high goal so that the discs are shot with the right power, at least what I plan to use odometry for if we get it working
(I didnāt watch a lot of FTC, but Iām pretty sure the robots without turrets did ok, but itās quite a different scenario from spin up, since different number of game elements and there was enough space for them to setup)
Also rollers are only worth 40 total, but if you take rollers away from the other team, they lose 40 and you gain 40, so in total an 80 point swing
if im correct the flashlights are illegal actually. Iād double check tho.

I was going off of R12 g. It would be a non-VEX flashlight and would be powered by an external battery. It would be providing feedback to drive team members (such as decorative lighting), and is therefore given an allowance.
That meets the definition of functional at that point.

Iām not sure I see where youāre coming from. It serves no other function that to provide feedback to drive team members. In the eyes of the rule it could be just an unusually large strip of decorative lighting used for driver feedback, which is explicitly permitted by R12 g. Where are you seeing a rule being violated (as in which rule)?

a design like this also makes it pretty easy to add a second (or third, or fourth) intake which can be pretty amazing in this game
Only risk I could see is towing the line for R12 f, could argue it could start providing functionality to vision sensors and whatnot. Generally I would think itās probably ok though.
I think a major difference between Spin Up and Turning Point is the fact that there is only one target for the turret to aim at. In turning point, the aiming mechanism needed to be manually activated every time someone needed to shoot.
In Spin Up, the turret can be set to constantly lock on to the goal and this will completely eliminate the time it takes to line up a shot, as a shot is always continuously lined up, and the disks can be fired as soon as they are loaded, giving a turret much faster cycle time compared to turning the robot around to aim.
My question is what and how they are tracking the center goal, because Iād like to know if it is a camera or something else.

The illegality of the VEX Flashlight was explicitly stated in previous manuals, but I think these two rules are clear enough.
