Start to cad help

Hey guys!

My team just ended our season in a hot note ranked 6th out of the 29 teams. I want to start CAD modeling as I am just arriving to high school next year and I have seen CAD be very helpful to teams with sizing. So is there any suggestions of where to start? Software recommendations? Tips and tricks? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

There are many topics discussing this, for example, one from a few days ago.

Personally, I use Onshape but a lot of teams use LD CAD which has a specific inbuilt VEX software. For some people, LD CAD is easier because it doesn’t require using any mates and is quite similar to building with lego. Onshape is a bit more complicated but it is still a good software.

Me and my team and all the others at my school all use Onshape, there is a tutorial for how to get all the vex parts on Onshape’s YouTube channel.

I’d think that onshape is like Legos as well. Just search for a part and then drag and drop.

Fusion 360 is amazing!

Also there is a community behind it

Note that many parts are not up to date in the library, but you can update them.

For example, the rotation sensor is out of date. But you can go on the vexrobotics website to get the updated high strength shaft variant of the rotation sensor

Lol the two of us that pushed the 2.0 release have long since graduated and haven’t kept up with releases. A great way to contribute towards the Fusion library is to make a PR with your changes to the official repo! onshape, or you can try protobot if you have a windows computer available

I use Protobot Rebuilt because it’s only used for VEX V5, and it’s got a lot of features that makes CADding really easy.
