Stupidest thing you've done in VEX

Maybe this isn’t so stupid, but my first robot for ITZ played Nyan Cat on loop during the autonomous. We changed it to play Beethoven’s Fifth at the end of the autonomous and still use it to this day. The judges love it.

Four years ago, during my schools first year doing Vex, we somehow made it to state with what was more or less a larger, less efficient chained clawbot (this was during Skyrise)(remember the chain part), anyways, we get to the final match of the day, we had been destroyed in almost each match so far, and just before this our program needed fixing. The only problem, our programmer was running windows on a mac and it decided that is should stop working right then, when we needed to replace the autonomous. In addition to this, one of our builders (I’m not saying names coughJaredcough) was bored right before the match and had been filing the gaps between each link of the chain with pop rivets. What ended up happening was our robot driving forward (which ended up blocking our partner’s autonomous) the lifting up the arm and spinning in circles while hitting the cubes and our partner, al the while rivets where shooting out of the chain all over the place. The commentator kept rolling with it, calling us the ballerina robot, and overall, it was awesome.

Rip us

This year we went to competition and our mobile goal intake was behaving funnily and we took a look at it and found that the only reason it was working was because two nuts that were getting in the way had fallen off. This led to Kyle saying the greatest vex quote of all time:
“It’s working because it’s broken!”

that is a circumstance I wish I had

Pushing a judge at state championships on accident, but we got banned from getting any award at state even when we were going to get the design award :frowning:

Well if it’s an accident, that sounds extremely unreasonable.

Right? It was unfair the decision

This is definitely the stupidest thing we’ve done:

(This was for ITZ) So, we had a chain bar that got us to finals in the John Bapst tournament and frequently semifinals in other tournaments. Because of the extremely aggressive pecking order of our lab, we don’t get ANY aluminum. We had talked to our coach because we had been doing so well and he agreed to give us 3 packs (18 pieces) of aluminum (its still not nearly enough aluminum to match 56C but for us it was heaven). We have this great idea of a DR4B, which we are currently in the process of rebuilding. The day after we get back from John Bapst, we take apart our ENTIRE ROBOT and build a super shotty DR4B with a 1:5 gear ration. The Cape Elizabeth qualifier, which we host, is next weekend. It didn’t work. We work on the DR4B up until TWO DAYS before the competition. We had neglected the mobile goal lift. Thirty minutes before we pack and bring up our bots to the middle school (where we host) we build an all steel mobile goal lift with a bunch of mecanum wheels as counterweight. We placed fifth overall (were in third and lost the last match and dropped to fifth), were in first, second and third for a majority of the competition and beat out 56E. Lost it QF because of bad teammates. Quality

I don’t even know where to start for all the bad ideas I had.

Mabey just having an 8 bar for ITZ that was my mogo and cone lift.

Probably going into a board room at worlds while a meeting was going on.

rekt

I see weebs

go look in a mirror. Then you’ll see a weeb

Yeah, there were certainly plenty of weebs on our team

My reaction to this entire video

tried to secure a screw, ended up breaking a gear

Well today we found that our old lift system, which we had hung in the back in case our new one didn’t work, had a badly bent axle since it was hanging there for several weeks.

during starstruck (my first year) our team had a 2 motor drive train it constantly burned out.

Ha. get rekt
We twisted two of our axles in SS when our lift jammed into the fence.
