Ok here me out:
- Tipping over neutral mogo,
- shoving it under opposing alliance’s bridge,
- winning competition
- going home and spending your newly won v-bucks.

dragging a heavy mobile goal across high friction tiles doesn’t exactly seem efficient to me.
The mobile goals in Tipping Point are identical in weight to those of In The Zone. The difference here, though, is that In The Zone utilized the Cortex System. With V5, I feel like that is not as big of a concern especially since I have known of some 590 teams who had passive mobile goal mechanisms that drag the mobile goal around the floor using the Cortex system for In The Zone season.
Not to mention, there are likely alternatives that can decrease the friction of the mobile goals. For example, you can include a method to passively tilt the mobile goal when the hook goes back down and over the lip via a mechanical solution.
In this game you do not need to let go of mobile goals like in In The Zone. You can quite literally pull them around with you wherever you go passively.
Having a bot that can quickly grab goals and hang rings consistently is probably going to be the best. Any bots that rely on a flaw in the game design can be nerfed in a latter update in rules. Over thinking the design early on is probably going to cost too much time so looking back at previous games would be good. I saw someone mention in the zone which I think is a good start.
Some bots may be dedicated to stealing goals so I kinda agree with you statement. To make it not drag a team could also dedicate many of the motors to ramps to get less friction (although my team is probably not going to do it).
Why have motors dedicated to ramps? Pneumatics are allowed right, so just have a small actuator so when the hook locks onto the goal, you use a pneumatic cylinder to release a pin that would make the hook pull into the robot from the power of rubber bands.
So at the beginning of the match all u gotta do is push the hook forward to arm it up again.
Boom… You now have a mobile goal mechanism that is nearly passive and can intake a mobile goal with a mere C-Channel with a hook on a slide
I kinda rope pneumatics in with motors but I still agree with your idea.
So during autonomous cab you cross the alliance zone line and grab a neutral logo or do you have to wait for driver control?
Yes, you can cross over the alliance zone. Your autonomous is bounded by the double lined autonomous line, where no part of your robot is allowed to touch the field tiles on the other side.
So you can code your robot to rush for the center goal and grab that immediately?
Yes. There is a neutral zone in which both robots can be in at the same time
As you read the game manual, keep in mind that the manual cannot tell you everything that your might do. The manual specifically tells you what is prohibited, and it tells you specific requirements you must follow. It doesn’t discuss game strategy, or tell you every possible legal maneuver you could do.
For example, if you want to run all your motors at half-speed on Tuesday evenings, go ahead: the manual does not prohibit it, therefore it is legal.
Yah, I was wrong about that. I double checked the manual and it is now clear that you can hoard goals without officially hoarding goals.
As far as I know there’s no rule against putting 5 mobile goals on the platform - I won’t be confident that it’s possible/plausible until I see the goals and get to try it out. Then, it’s about getting it to balance.
I could see a meta that completely ignores rings and is all about moving mobile goals onto the platform (and stealing the goals from other robots/platforms).
That 30 second period at the end really needs has a sound-marker so that everyone is clear when it starts. [Edit: As @holbrook pointed out, the tournament manager software already plays a sound at that time point]
Tournament Manager already plays a warning sound at 0:30 left in the match.
I think that this will be a year with a lot of heavily modified clawbots
Has anyone seen rules about tipping/descoring rings that are NOT on alliance goals?
I could see some cheap strategies that involve placing the alliance goals defensively so that other alliance can’t risk messing with them and accidentally descoring alliance rings. SG6 only covers strategies that intentionally descore rings on the mobile goals. Accidentally descoring rings while moving the goals wouldn’t count.
You are allowed to descore rings on neutral mogos
