Update: 2020 VEX Robotics Virtual World Championship Celebration

I saw that too. I was wondering the same thing

resigned sigh

He probably means greenville time. It is 10:55 pm in greenville.

I know… pretty much everyone is asleep in Greenville at this point.

Not true. I live in austin, which is the same time zone (in fact, its only a few hours from greenville), and pretty much everyone here is awake, though hopefully social distancing.

I do have a rather small sample size though.

why??? Your brain needs sleep.

I’ll bet you a heart that schedules aren’t posted by 12:01 AM Greenville time on April 10th.

Based on VEX’s previous record of meeting their own deadlines, there’s almost no risk on my end.

You’re on.

It is now 12:01. I believe that I am owed a heart.

I think we can expect the divisions in approximately 8 weeks.

Divisions after worlds? Sounds a little too soon.

See, this is what I don’t get. There was no need to cancel worlds in the first place. If we’re going by VEX time, it would have been December by the time April 25th rolled around.

Taran if you posted that it was 12:01 an hour ago, then what time is it now for you?!?

Imagine if there were no divisions, but every team was randomly paired with every team, and placed against each team twice for the ultimate round robin, and then alliance selection happens with a Round of 128 bracket.

Eliminations, if all bo3, would be 765 matches. RR for 365ish alliances would take… About 67000 matches assuming BO1. Thats a lot of matches.

I’m on AZ time. It’s 10:38, and I’m going to bed very soon.

I’m in Ohio and it’s 2 am right now and I’m still awake

Division assignments are now live on RobotEvents for everything except VEXU (edit: VEXU divisions went live just after I posted this).

The new division names are:

  • VIQC ES: Orion
  • VIQC MS: Physics, Research (ā€œresearchā€ is not a new division name, but is new to VIQC MS, I think)
  • VRC MS: Curiosty, InSight
  • VRC HS: Physics, Automation

So no luck on HAMSTERS, but I’m sure someone will think of an acronym.

This is the acronym I came up with:
pop CIA

Update: I wrote a quick python script to search for division name acronyms, here’s what I came up with:

  • VIQC ES (Apollo, Cassini, Chandra, Hubble, Viking, Orion): none found
  • VIQC MS (Science, Technology, Research, Engineering, Arts, Math, Physics): RESTAMP, STAMPER, TAMPERS
  • VRC MS (Spirit, Opportunity, Curiosity, InSight): none found, either with or without the second ā€œsā€ from ā€œInSightā€
  • VRC HS (Science, Technology, Research, Engineering, Arts, Math, Physics, Automation): none found
  • VEXU (Design, Innovate): ID - but do we really need an acronym for two divisions?

So the future of division name acronyms does not look very bright.

Arts division is too stacked
